View Full Version : Bub would not eat
Dear All,
I am worried...
For the last 2 days my bub is refusing to feed, she won't take solids or formula...
It was bad yesterday but today it has gone worth...
She is crying every time she sees her bottle and locking her lips, she is closing her lips when I offer solids as well...
I was trying to force her:o and she spit her solids at me...I probably deserve it but I am just worried...
She does not have a high temperature, she is not looking sick but does not sleep well and she is teething...
She has been teething for a while now as it is already her forth tooth:) but she was eating before...
Shall I take her to the doctor?
Thank you!

If she hasn't had fluids for 2 days I would take her to emergency.

So would I. Not eating is one thing - refusing all fluids is another. Straight to the doctor but if she doesn't drink anything else tonight then straight to hospital.
no, no
I am feeding her a little bit but she is crying through her feed today...and she did not look happy about it yesterday...
she has wet nappies but I am concerned that I have to push her to eat...
I am not sure if I suppose to force her:confused:
But I should say though she cries at the beginning of the feed once she gets attached to her bottle she does not cry but she eats significantly less than usual for the last 2 days in general

I would say, then, that its teething or she is getting sick. My DD is an absolute champion eater and she's been so unwell lately, she just literally went off all of her food. Even after a few days she wouldn't eat fruit or yoghurt, which she normally loves. She was still drinking all her bottles though and drinking plenty of water, too, so I was happy to leave her. She'd been to the doctor three times because doc was concerned that she wasn't getting better, but she turned the corner a couple of days ago and her appetite has come back with a vengeance! She's absolutely scoffing everything down.
Could well be her teeth - you could try cold fruit, as in peach slices or something out of a tin - DD loves those when she's teething. Could also just be a phase. If she's drinking (and I mean drinking plenty) then see how she goes for another few days...

Could be teeth or coming down with something. You know yourself, if you feel like crap, you might not want to eat. I wouldn't force it. Just keep an eye that there is plenty of wet nappies, offer food, but if she doesn't eat it, don't worry. A bit of panadol might help.
Thank you.
I can not say that she drinks plenty:( if I am not mitaken I changed 5 nappies today...we have more other days...
Is it o'k?
She does not behave out of ordinary but this eating thing is very strange...
So shall I keep on offering her food again and again or should I leave her alone if she is crying when she see her bottle?
providing she still has wet nappies

How old is she?
If she is not drinking much and off her bottles, I would be inclined to get some pedialite (fluid replacer) from the chemist. When mine are sick it is the only time they get juice. I give them some really watered down apple juice in a sippy cup. Because they never get juice, they drink a lot. When kids are a bit sick, fluids are even more important than at other times.
Thank you Opinionated,
she is 7 months old and we have some difficulties drinking water...I keep on offering her sippy cup but she hardly drinks it and I was talkng to our health nurse about it not a long time ago and she said it is o'k as long as I keep on offering water to her all the time...she will get used to it...
But now she does not take water at all...she had one sip today and I offered her water like 20 times...same story - she closes her lips and cries
I though if she is not hungry I can give her a drink at least but it did not go that well

is she on formula or Breast Feeding?? If she is Breastfeeding just keep offering the Breast milk and not worry about food or even water. Just keep offering the Breast and keep an eye on her nappies. I think about 8 wet nappies in 24 hours is ok....... If you are still worried about DD then I would take her to the doctors.
My DD is B/F and never has water yet.
Thank you.
She is formula fed mostly and I give her some donated EBM but she was refusing it as well:(...
as we use formula I am trying to give her some water

hmmmmm ok then. Have you tried a little diluted juice? I think a trip to the doctors might be needed. If my DD (who is the same age as yours) started refusing feeds and fluids I think I would see a doctor just to be sure she was ok.
Hugs xx
Thank you.
No, I have not tried any juice so far but I was making her eat:o so she has some fluids and food in her...
Yep, I would take her to the doctor then:(
Thank you!

Goodluck! It is so hard with this age as they are inbetween ages of solely bottle feeding and eating like big kids!
With my DD (my 5th bub :) ) I always still offer her a BF or bottle feed first before solids and if she doesnt eat Im not worried. however if she stopped her fluids I would stress.
Let us know how you go
xx
yep, it is like if I am not forcing her she would not drink/eat at all...so it seems in the last 2 days:confused:
will do! thank you so much!

she's probably just being fussy coz of her teeth or she's got a little bug.
You can ensure she gets some liquid by using a syringe with water. Just stick it in the corner of her mouth and direct it towards the side of her cheek and she wont be able to help but swallow.

Definitely take her to the doctors, see if they can shed some light on it.....
And don't worry too much about the food, just make sure she's having lots of fluids :hugs:
Dear All,
I took her to GP and she was like…well I do not know... sometimes babies like that:) they refuse to eat …maybe teething...just make sure she drinks
But I was making her drink with the syringe as per your great advise!:hugs:
She is better today! She still does not want her solids but she had 3 milk feeds almost full feeds:) and she started to drink herself from her sippy cup!
So thank you all so much!:hugs:
