Okay please excuse the extremely lame questions but I am so confuzzled?!?!

After a lot of thinking and soul searching I have decided I want to get into Nursing...
I have been a stay at home mum for over four years and have never done a tafe or uni course, and completed year 12 in 2000!

I have done heaps of googling and all this post graduate/undergraduate stuff really confuses me, and alot of the courses I am interested in say I have to do be an enrolled nurse to do :ecomcity:
And Im so confused!!!

So what course would someone with no experience, prior learning etc have to do to get there foot in the door to nursing??? I would also need to do it from home for now :) So wanting to do some 'lead up' courses until the boys are in school - does that make sense???

Thanks in advance :)

Hi Sunnygal. Did you get an OP at school? If you did, you can get in on that, If you didn't you could do a STAT test (see QTAC site).
You are looking for an undergraduate course (Bachelor of Nursing) that is delivered externally. However, to do an external nursing degree you will have to go interstate to do the practical components in blocks (so like 2 weeks at a time). And then some uni's now want you to do your nursing placements in their states as well.

Some uni's have a bridging course like the TPP (see BsMummy's post in this section) that do the English, Maths, Biology, literature that will give you an entrance score as well.

It does get confusing, hopefully I haven't confuzzled you any further :shakehands:

you would be wanting to do an undergraduate degree, post grad degrees are for people who already have a uni degree

im not sue which uni you are looking at, but at my uni (in NSW) nursing is offered as an undergraduate degree internally (ie on campus attending classes and pracs, not by distance), and you can get into this off your UAI (OP in QLD).

to study by distance, ie from home, you must have completed the first year of the internal course, then continue the rest of the course via distance, or have prior nursing experience.

every uni is different, but i would assume you would have to do the first component of your degree on campus as you are wanting to use your UAI/dont have previous qualifications.

At most unis you can study part time, meaning only 1-2days a week in daycare which is do-able

and you will also find that once you are enrolled and studying, it is easy to drop/pick up subjects to suit your needs, depending on how quick you want to finish the course
