When I put my 13 month old down for a day sleep he alternates between giggling, standing up, playing and grizzling for up to an hour. After half an hour or so he sticks his hand down his throat until he throws up over the side of the cot. Whenever he gets upset (as opposed to playing/grizzling) I always go in and re-settle him - I never let him cry.

He is definitely tired before I put him down - rubbing eyes, yawning, grizzling, red eyes, etc.

Does anyone anyone have experience with this? What can I do? When he does it, I simply walk in, replace his dummy, lie him down and walk out again. I don't even clean up the mess - I wait until he wakes up before I clean it up so I don't distract him. I don't give him a reaction because I don't want to encourage/reinforce the behaviour.

Any help appreciated!

They think they are so clever when they work out that trick. I treated it as bad behaviour. I said "NO" when I caught it starting. If they threw up. I just cleaned up, but left them in the cot while I did it (not easy, but do-able), resettled and left. They soon figured out that no matter what, it's bed time and it stopped. My girlfriend had to put towels on the floor around the cot for her on purpose chucker.

HI

My daughter did it for months and I didnt know it was on purpose till i took her to QEC sleep school. Now if she goes to do it is say 'Uh Uh NO!". If she does throw up I go in, dont make eye contact, throw a towel in her cot to cover wet spots. I change her if its a cold night but find if you dont change bubs she will realise she wont be getting any attention from throwing up. She has stopped thowing up now. Tonight she has been crying for last hour as she wants milk feed and has excema..im trying to make her sleep through night. She has tried to throw up and when I hear her cough and yell out "ah ah no!'. What every phrase you choose to use make sure its only for them throwin up..dont say NO! as she wont take it seriously as you use it all the time..walk out of room let bubs cry and go in every 10 minutes or whenever you think is right and 'shhhush' baby but very important to NOT make eye contact. The throwing up will stop when your reaction to it changes. GOOD LUCK...You can do it!!

Ds used to do this, he worked out is was my PHOBIA!!!! Little sneakey one... and then used it to get his way also.

Thankfully at 4.5 he has grown out of it.

I had to just put up with it and try not make a big deal of it when he did it (which was VERY hard for me).

Not a fun phase, I sympathise
