I am hear for some advice about how to best work out your time of your cycle when you are NOT fertile.

Long story short, my son was conceived even when using a condom. His father and I had sex on day 14 of my regular 28 day cycle. Now I know that is my most fertile time (i had no idea really back then).

I have been a single mum for a long time, haven't been intimate with anyone for AGES :rolleyes: and have been seeing someone and hoping that mid week that something may progress 'further' iykwim lol!!

But I can't remember when I last had my period. I think it will be about day 16 if we DTD, but I am not 100% sure. I may be a day or two off either way.

I am absolutely TERRIFIED of getting pregnant. I can't handle the thought of going through it alone again.

SO is there any other way to detect if I would be fertile??

Oh and please note that I WILL be using a condom, but I don't have any faith in them anymore.

The best prevention is abstinence - I know, but come on, a girl has needs too!!! Especially after so long!!

sammy76 now wonders if she has jinxed herself, and probably won't have the fortune of anything happening now :o

there are lots of ovulation programs online. you put in your dates and it works out the estimated ovulation days for you.

also, you can use spermicide, go on the pill, get an IUD, depo etc.

If you use a combination of birth control devices your chances of preventing pregnancy are increased.

If you are really worried as a last resort, you could use the morning after pill just in case...but this is not ethical for some.

Last last resort...hold off, wait another few weeks....:fingerscrossed:

Knowing what day in your cycle can indeed give you a good indication of your fertile time but I find that keeping an eye on my CM is the best indicator.

That way I know when I'm ovulating ect

When your CM increases and is stringy and egg whiteish, that's fertile baby! lol

There's a fab book called 'Taking charge of your fertility (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Taking-Charge-Your-Fertility-Reproductive/dp/0091887585/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1246784478&sr=8-1)', and it is great for understanding fertility. If used properly natural fertility management is 98% effective, which is the same as condoms and the mini pill. But there are always exceptions - some women can ovulate twice in one cycle, and you can ovulate early or late. Which is where I got Esme!

Hopefully at the time you can actually have fun and not be too worried about everything else. Do coma and tell the single 30 somethings all about it - we need to live vicariously! :D

If you are that worried about it you need a back up as well.... the mini pill. It takes effect super quick & combined with condoms you should be covered.
