View Full Version : Best way to check ovulation time?
I'm just wondering what everyone's recommendations are re: the best way to work out when you're ovulating? Last time I used the basal temp method (but no time this time! :D) and Maybe Baby.
Which way has worked for you?
Thanks!

i have found the saliva monitors to be the most reliable, it seems to go along with BBT charting though for determining ovulation. At least you get warning ovulation is approaching with the saliva monitor. :D

I have always charted BBT with monitoring CM.
I have *very* regular and predictable cycles though so that makes my charts pretty easy to interpret.
I've never used OPK's or fertility monitors but I'd imagine if you have wacky cycles they might be a bit easier.

Most reliable way is CM.
By the time you've noticed a tempoerature change it's too late.
Temping is good to get a rough idea of how your cycle goes, but it can always vary. Great for confirming you have actually ovulated.
deffinately the cm for me, I can tell when its coming, the temp then confirms it. But I too have very regular predictable cycles...
Thanks everyone!
The only thing is ... I don't understand the abbreviations! :o What does CM, BBT and OPK mean?
Thanks again!

Hi Mini,
CM=Cervical Mucus, BBT= Basal Body Temperature (I think  ) and OPK = Ovulation Predictor Kits!
You can find a list of abbreviations and their meanings at the top of the List of the Forums on this site.
For me, I'd say my maybe baby and CM, and other signs of O such as O pains, mood swings and increased appetite and sore boobs all warn me that Ovulation is immenint!!!!

CM cervical mucus
BBT basal body temperature
OPK ovulation predictor kit
(edit: Ah I see I was beaten to it :p )
I find CP (cervical position) combined with CM works best for me. (note that checking your CP should be done hygenically as it can introduce an infection)

I always assumed that once I had sore bbs that I must have O'd already!! Perhaps not then. I have very long cycles so it's hard to pick when O is happening. Has anyone tried Evening Primrose Oil to help with cm? Does it work?

I have only used CM, just try to BD whenever it is remotely EWish. Oh, and I've been taking EPO, definitely increases CM!!(which makes it trickier to differentiate when it is O, though it is usually more creamy than EW IYKWIM.

So EPO makes the CM more creamier when Oing?
