Well, this is my 2nd pregnancy, and I do recall getting a nervy pain at the base of my spine last time, but that was only when i was 38 weeks, so I thought that to be normal pressure. Now though, I am only just 18 weeks and I have been getting this lower back pain gradually getting worse over the last week...
At work I was doing the hair of a womens health physio, and she mentioned it could be the beginning of pelvic displacement....can anyone who has had this, tell me what their first discomforts or symptoms were? and what did they do to help it? and did it get worse and worse? Some one else had mentioned some thing along the lines of siatica?(sp?) Can anyone explain what it is and what the differences are? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
i have a bad back so its pretty normal for me but its one of the complants of being pg your a hair dresser right so your on your feet most of the day it will happen

Gosh, this sounds like me for the last few days! I've been taking panadol because I've had a numbey-achey pain in my right lower back down to my leg. Lately, it's my WHOLE lower back and right leg (lower back as in where the coccyx is) and it's actually become debilitating. I do think it's sciatic pain, but I've never had it before - not with my first pg - so not too sure? I really do'nt know what to do about it. I think I'll ask my doc at the next visit, which is only in 2 weeks' time. :( So if you check with your doc before then, please won't you post and let us know?

Hey,
By 18 weeks with my previous pregnancy I had developed really bad SPD and was unable to walk. I ended up in the laobur ward the pain was so bad I literally couldnt move my legs and for a long time couldnt walk without a walking frame and support brace.
If you are getting bad pain already, don't wait for it to get better/worse, do something about it now. Make yourself an appt to see a physio and regardless of whats causing it (I had SPD symphis pubic dysfunction) they can teach you some exercies to help, teach you ways to move and things to avoid doing that can make it worse, give you a support brace or support belt if neccesary etc.
Are there any times it gets worse? standing on one leg? walking up/down stairs? rolling over and getting in and out of bed?
Thankfully I only had a minor repeat this pregnancy and then what I would call 'typical' aches and pains which don't always feel so typical because they have me in tears but its nothing like I had in my previous pregnancy so easier to deal with!
Best of luck, please make sure you see someone about it though.. if you can ease the pain do so!
Take care,
Charmaine
