View Full Version : what pilchers to use with terry flats?
Hi everyone
I am planning on using a variety of nappies but I was wondering what pilchers I should use with terry flats? I know the traditional ones are the PVC but are there better ones that breathe without leaking? Bub due in a couple of weeks and need to get some asap.

I always used the cheap'n'nasty PVC ones, all the others leaked....but there has to be some good ones, as what do all the clothies use? Sorry i can't help more. :o
rikki covers by motherease (can be bought online at nipnaps.com.au {not sure if that is the right address}) expensive - about $20 each, but worth it. they don't leak and last ages and are made of breathable material

I mainly use PVC also. Was using fluffies but they are so hard to come by.

If you have a through a few places like nappycino & modern cloth websites they should be able to give you some ideas on whats out & about.
The best stuff to use nowadays is PUL its like a PVC but actually breathes so much better for little bums.

If you are after actual pilcher style covers (pull up with elastic waist), try http://www.eenee.com.au. I think they are called Waterproof Baby Pants, they are exactly like pilchers but are made from PUL which is breathable. They are around $9 or so each.
Or if you are after more of a wrap style cover, and willing to spend a bit more, http://www.babybeehinds.com.au have some great PUL wraps. They are about $15 each. They are a very high quality, and will last for ages.
I'd go with Bummis Super Whisper Wraps from www.theweewuns.com.au or Baby Beehind PUL wraps from www.babybeehinds.com.au they will last much much longer than PVC pilchers, give a snugger fit and breathe very well.
Cheers
As far as PUL covers go, I liked the Motherease Airflows the best. They are a lower cut around the thighs so tend to cover the flat terries better than some other styles which are designed to be used with trim fitted cloth nappies. I prefer the Airflow over the Rikki because I like snaps better than aplix. I've found it to give a better fit, is more difficult for an older baby to remove and doesn't curl or snag the way aplix can do over time. The PUL used in the ME covers are thicker than a lot of other brands (including Eenees) which means that it will last longer but some people prefer the thinner PUL. Personal preference. I've purchased from NipNaps and found their service to be very prompt.
I avoided PVC covers completely but found that wool covers also worked well. Wool is probably the most breathable material to make a cover out of and it is actually quite low maintenance because they do not need to be washed every day. Check out some old threads here if you are interested.
what about fluffies covers? has anyone had experience with them? Do they leak?

I haven't used the fluffies covers myself, but I have seen alot in op shops, so maybe you could find a few cheap and try them out? I was just thinking that fleece covers would be nice and soft for a newborn too, but I haven't actually used them either! I used the cheap PVC ones when DD was small, but I didn't like how the elastic left marks on her legs (now she's older I figure she'll get over it :o ).
