Hi girls,

I am a first time mum of a 6 week old daughter. I gained about 12 kg while preg and only lost the baby weight. I am feeling as a loser on that front. My BF isn't helping me and i have gained the 1 kg i lost thanks minipill.

The problem is that as DH's work hours are so exhaustive i have less time for myself. Whole of my day is occupied with Ria and housework.

I remember i saw a lady on Dr Phil show[ i think] who said that you can simultaneously exercise while playing with the baby. I don't remember them exactly. Please help with some new ideas.

I go for a walk with Ria but i cannot go long because she starts crying after a short time.

It will be great if i can get some suggestions how to lose the weight. I am annoyed of internet websites and need some practical suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

Priya

HI
Firstly, don't feel bad coz you haven't lost much weight, your baby is still tiny. My youngest is 7mths old and I haven't had much time to think about how much I weigh. When my first bub was 6weeks I was still struggling to get the housework done and have a shower before 3pm, exercise was the last ting on my mind...tho if I had motivation (usually shopping with a friend) I could be outta the house by 9am :D

Now that I have 2 bubs, the youngest is 7mths, my exercise is usually picking up the million toys DS (3yrs old) spreads around the house, vacuuming up the crumbs from his breakfast/lunch/dinner, sometimes I have to do it after every meal, running up and down the stairs to put rubbish bags in the bin, dirty nappies in the laundry, etc...we also walk to the fruit shop a few times a week coz it's quicker to walk than take the car and load/unload 2 kids.

Suggestions for you...keep going for walks, bub will start to enjoy them, both mine were a bit unsettled for a few weeks, but now they both love going for walks. Try putting bub in a sling or pouch so she is close to you.
Even walking around a shopping centre for a few hours is pretty good exercise, as long as you can resist the urge to stop for coffee & cake ;)
My nana told me to 'get excited' about housework to help me loose weight  She said the faster you do it the more it will help you loose weight....kinda makes sense...

Hope some of that is helpful...

Your daugher's 6 weeks old?! Mate, don't stress yet! My DD2 is 10 1/2 months, and i'm only really getting back into my pre preggers clothes now. Mind you, not everyone takes as long 10 months either.... I put on nearly 23 kgs with both girls!

Its surprising how much exercise you get by running around as they get older, and your BF-ing might start to pay off soon. There is so much pressure to get back into shape quickly after giving birth, but its safer to do it in good time. As cwsmum said, if you keep up with the walking, you may find she gets used to it, and even likes it! I found DD2 was a bit fidgety up until about 5 weeks, but then started to love being out!

Take it easy, it won't happen overnight, but it will happen! :hugs:

My DD is nearly 9 months old and I'm just now neeaaarly back to my pre-bub weight!
Be kind to yourself.

Oh, my DD didn't start really enjoying being in the pram till about 12 weeks. These days I can't get her out!
