Does anyone have any advise on how to help my 4 month old stay on his tummy longer? He has gr8 neck control but can get upset quite quickly. I dont want to make this activity unpleasent for him but I understand that this is very important in his developement. I would be gr8ful for any tips on how to make this more fun :D

i lie on the floor in front of bub so my face is same as his- then i pull faces/smile/blow raspberries to distract him. also lie him across my lap on his tummy and he also likes a mirror underneath him (have to be careful with this one for banging head). good luck!

You could try having bub on your stomach and chest while you lay on your back or lean back in a chair.

Also you can hold them on their tummy in your arms with support for their head. Sort of giving them an airplane ride as you move around, but keeping them close into your body for support and comfort. They'll see a lot more with the height advantage.

Our little boy didn't like being on his tummy for to long either, but to get him used to it we give him a baby massage (which he loves) we switch him onto his tummy to do his back we also put a toy in front of him to watch! He is starting to love his tummy time now! :D

so glad to hear you orly's mum. my own mother tells me i rarely had any tummy time because i hated it so much. i also never crawled, and didn't walk til 18 mths, but later in childhood was very good at dancing and have nearly finished postgrad studies so i don't think it has scarred me in ANY way. :p :p
Alice also HATES tummy time so i don't persist anymore. it's too stressful. i really would like to know WHY ppl think it is SOOOO important! show me the research-based evidence and then i'll be convinced. otherwise, i wouldn't waste another kilojoule of your energy being worried about this particular issue!!

all the best

hey there
my little girl wasnt too fussed at first but grew to like it. i got a 'lamaze' mirror and she just loved seeing her own little face. (the mirror was just plastice and slid into a soft colourful wedge like thing)

Hi ladies, Thomas also doesn't like tummy times either at first. But as he's wee bit 'older' he gradually enjoying himself being on his tummy even just for couple minutes. Having said that I tend not to make a big deal about it, because I know that he's doing more than alrite for his age.

I too back then hated tummy times, so I had none of these tummy exercises and look at me am doing ok-I might no becoming a doctor like my old man but I did manage to earn a good degree etc but let’s not go into that!

So for me, Thomas can have tummy times now and then, its not a must thing for us. As some days, he has none. And he’s OK, happy and healthy so thats the main thing. I just want to enjoy motherhood without going over the board. My old man was an Ob and he and mum were ok being parents, and so does my older brother who is also an Ob his kids are brilliant and healthy and he or his wife never fussed about tummy times!

Have a good weekend, my hubby will be home today after away from overseas business trip so hooray! :)
