Hi there,

I was diagnosed about a week ago with Hashimoto's auto-immune disease. I've read that it can be hard to conceive with this, and also hard to keep the pregnancy as it may be rejected by my body. I had thyroid issues when pregnant with DS as I've had thyroiditis since 2003, but we don't know if I had Hashimoto's when I fell pregnant with DS, which took 8 months (I was 23). I have been to a specialist and am having more tests before seeing him again in a month, so I'm not on Thyroxine at this stage.

Does anyone else here have Hashimoto's?
What has your TTC journey been like?

All advice/opinions welcome.

Thanks :)

Hi

I too have Hashimoto's and had no trouble at all falling pregnant. I was diagnosed at the same time I found out I was pregnant with DS (who knows how long I had it before that though). I went to a specialist and he started me on Thyroxine straight away. My pregnancy was easy and had no complications at all. I just had to have blood tests throughout the pregnancy to keep checking my thyroid levels were in the normal range.

Good luck TTC - I have my fingers crossed for you!

Hi arabesque ,

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos about ten years ago. Our first DD took 12 months of TTC, where-as our second DD was only two months. Our DS was 14 months in the making. My levels were all over the place with before and during DD1's pregnancy but steady for the rest of the time.

I don't really know if it's a contributing factor in TTC as I haven't seen a specialist to ask (remote area we live in). With my differing times with each of our babies I would say not. With my most recent pregnancy one Dr said the Hashimotos could be the reason my babies are small but when we went away to have him the Dr didn't seem to think it was a contributing factor.

Sorry I don't really have a solid answer for you but I thought I would post about my three pregnancies (with not losses) and hopefully reassure you a little. Just be sure to get your levels checked regulary and I'm sure you'll have no trouble from it.

Good luck with your TTC journey.

Thank you both for your replies!

It's so rgeat to read that you have both had successful pregnancies and that it hasn't seemed to impact them. Your stories have been a big encouragement :yelclap:

Thanks again!

Hi ladies,
thanks for starting this conversation and to hear positive stories. I was told I have Hashimoto disease only two weeks ago. I am now 10 weeks (so early days) and of course read everything I could on the net for info... which I am not sure was a great idea... higher risk of m/c etc...
My specialist appointment is not until late this coming week so am hoping that once I see this doctor that things will be sorted soon.
My TSH levels were 13, so very high and had bouts of insomnia, an anxiety attack (freaked me out as I had never had one before and felt not me), increased heart rate, hot flushes and poor hubby gets my lovely *****y moods! (not sure all of these are linked to hashimoto or just being pregnant?)
I am not sure when I got hashimoto but we conceived without even knowing i had it. we were practicing for bub for bout 5 months but have a weird ever changing cycle ....
will update more once been to specialist ...

Ladies, I sincerely thank you all for your stories.

I've had Hashimotos for 7 years now. It runs in our family and I was diagnosed at 18.

I was wondering if there's anyone out there that has had it for a decent amount of time and was sucessful in falling pregnant and not miscarrying before birth?

I'm starting to lose hope.

I had it for a couple of years before falling pregnant with DD and then 2 years later had DS...no issues

L3xana, please don't give up hope.
I went to the specialist 2 weeks ago and although I have been put on medication she said that it will be 'the least of my problems'. the meds she assured me will not affect the baby at all.
i have been on the meds now for nearly 2 weeks i am feeling good. not sure if i am less anxious because i am feeling more at ease or if it is the actual medication???:chillpill:
i guess, 5-6 months was a while conceiving however as i mentioned i have an unusual 6-7 week cycle and it wasn't until i really paid attention to my body's rhythms that i became pregnant. i didn't even know i had hashimotos and now i so thankful for this pregnancy for making me aware of the situation.
i am now 12 weeks, still no morning sickness and off for my 12 week scan tomorrow. Am very excited and know that all will go well! :goodvibes::sunshine:
