Liv has been quite unsettled at night lately and bonjella seems to work. I also mentioned to a friend today that she has nappy rash, first time ever, and she said that she must be teething.
Has anyone else's bub had nappy rash when teething?

Yep! Claire did, but that was only because she had such terrible, terrible diarrohea for a week and a half before her first 2 teeth appeared!!
I have heard that nappy rash on its own though can be a sign of teething.
(PS: I LOVE that avatar pic!! That jumper Olivia is wearing is just gorgeous - as is she!!)
There are alot of misconceptions about teething and the things that are caused by it.
She probably had a few wet nappies wher her urine was concentrated and it may have caused a rash.
Or maybe she ate something new?
Teething does not cause runny poos, fever, ear infections etc.
Babies often get diarrheoa while teething as they put everything they can in their mouths and there for pick up all sorts of nast tummy bugs, and along with the bugs can come fevers. These need to be treated for what they are and not simply blamed on 'teething'.
Just put some cream or some curash powder on her lil bottom and I'm sure it will be gone in a couple of days.

Sorry Emysmum! But I have to disagree with you there! There is absolutely not a shadow of doubt in my mind that my DD's diarrohea was caused by teething!!
And I was sceptical of this too before it happened!!
If you ask any Dr or baby nurse they will tell you the same thing.
I studied child health and development and this is one of the things I was taught by my teacher, a child care worker and nurse of 25 year experience at the time.

Same! Both DD's got terrible burny poos while teething, leaving big red rashes (even though changed straight away), very different to a normal runny poo. Every time they got it, i knew a tooth was coming!
But this all comes back to them picking up tummy bugs from putting everything in their mouths...see the difference!? Teething alone does not cause it but putting dirty germ covered things in their mouths will.

But....they're always putting germy things in their mouths! Wouldn't that mean they have runny poo all of the time?! They don't only put things in their mouths when teething....
NO but they do it ALOT more.
OK I am going to stop the argument now and just say that not only am I am mother but as I have said above that I studied chile health and development, not saying that anyone is right or wrong or I know more as I am not claiming any such thing, just stating what I was taught.

I wasn't trying to start an argument:o , just saying that its not always true....there are always exceptions.

Thanks for all the input ladies. I have also heard that teething symptoms are a myth, but then others swear by them:confused: . So who knows? I will keep my eye out for those toothy pegs, they are bound to make an appearence sooner or later

I have to agree with the others runny poos etc etc is a sign of teething as every times my bubs teeth hurts he has bad wind (smelly) and runny poo and all the others things associated with teething that some say arent true...
my bubs is only 5 months old and he does not put germy stuff in his mouth yet so I know its him teething also he sucks on his lips really bad every time his teeth are moving... I spoke with my CHN and my doctor and they also both agree it is teething and all the symptoms associated.. I think some people agree and some disagree on it ... but I am sure we all know what our bubs do when they are teething.. may we all just need to agree to disagree on this issue...

I have to disagree, I am sorry
My doctor, and midwives have told me that yes, urine can cause rashes because of higher acid or whatever that is in the babies urine. But ear pulling, slight fever IS signs of teething as well as the obvious! (munching on anything and drooling all over the place)
ATM my DD is not agreeing with Heinz Mums recipe food so she had 4 poos in one day  (all EXACTLY what she had eaten) but i haver to say her poos are slightly looser since she started heavily teething.

Well, true to form, my DD's 7th tooth is poking through, and guess what?! She's had burny runny poos today, and hasn't been sticking things in her mouth any more than usual.
Agree to disagree...yes.

Just a quick update ladies, Liv cut her first tooth this morning. I am very excited. There was just a small amount this morning that we could see and then this afternoon in the car she completely cracked it, and when we got home, we could see more of her little toothy pegs.
Oh, I'm bf, so my excitement may diminish by tomorrow night lol

Another one firmly in the yes it does cause it camp ;)
I have read all the medical advice that says there is no proven correlation, but even some of that states that anecdotally parents do notice a relationship between the two.
DD always gets a runny bum and rash with teeth. I remember with one of her molars she pooped about 5 times in one day. The next day a brand new molar...she did not have a stomach virus, we've been through all that a few times and the two are very different :) She was eating normally, had no fever, and was totally herself but for the runny bum.
DD is a mouther from way back, she has always put things in her mouth *constantly*, teething or not. She can't possibly do it any worse when she's teething because she does it all the time anyway
My kids only ever got nappy rash when they were teething.
Their bums would get red raw, sometimes bleeding.
I would smother them in castor and zinc, and by the following morning, all would be good again.
My kids only got their nappies changed everytime they pooed - approx 10 times a day, easily for each. When they were teething, this poo-rate would increase.
So they were NEVER left in an acidic nappy for very long, at all.
I quote from my Medical text book:
"Teething may result in considerable discomfort for some infants, and little or none for others. The inflammation of the gums as the tooth prepares to emerge may result in a low-grade fever and irritability (...) increase in nappy rash to the extent that the infant has blister-like formations. All should clear up within days of the eruption (of the tooth)."
One of my other texts goes into detail, including all of the above.
