Just a quick question....

when can you give tap water (filtered) to baby to drink without having to boil it?

I was giving DD boiled water till she was nearly 2. Then we switched to bottled and then filtered.
I don't think they recommend it before 12 months and I actually think it may be a little longer.
It didn't bother me boiling the water. I would do it at night and fill a jusg and put it in the fridge ready for the next day. Doesn't take long.

My DD is 8 months old and the MChealth nurse has told us its fine for her to have tap water, the fluride in it is good for her teeth and helps stop dental probs later on:yes: ... I thought it would have been for longer though:confused:

At 8 months you should still be boiling, just like you should still be sterilizing. The water should be sterile, so it needs to be still boiled at least until 12 months.

I've got a question along these lines - when can I give my baby boiled water? She's two months old, is this too young to start? Or should I wait a little longer?

I would have thought that you should boil water 'til 12 months...but on the subject of sterilising, i've recently heard that washing in really hot soapy water and rinsing will do it properly? I know sterilising in Milton actually does more harm than good, as the Milton kills all the good bacteria in bubs' body, as well as the bad.

Emma, if she's breastfed, i think they say that they generally don't need water as well, but formula fed you can every so often. I would think you could start now if you wanted, but is there a specific reason you want to? They don't actually need water....

oh, and there was no specific reason, just wanted to know if i DID give her water it wouldn't kill her or make her grow an extra limb or anything :p

Hehehe, well, we don't have any extra limbs here, so it should be safe! ;)

I too have heard that sterilising has been touted recently as being of more harm than good and that baby's utensils, bottles and bowls should be either washed in a dishwasher or washed in HOT soapy water, rinsed and left to air dry!

I gave my kids tap water from around 7 or 8 months old. It was also at that point that I started making formula with tap water too. I gave up sterilising as soon as they were putting thier hands in thier mouth and picking up little bits of fluff etc from the floor!

I have two extremely healthy kids ... with no allergies, skin problems or asthma ... despite the fact that I have several allergies!
