My 8 yr old has been diagnosed with mild asthma. She has been prescribed ventolin as a reliever and alvesco as I preventer, but all I have read says that this shouldn't be used in kids under 12. Do you know about this one, or another med called flixotide. Would you mind letting me know what meds your kids take?
She is only mild, with dry coughing at night, wheezing and the lung function test points to mild asthma. I am speaking with the dr again tommorrow, but just wondering about what other kids take. Thanks.
Most people I know are on flixotide. Not familiar with alvesco.

DSS is on ventalin (the grey/blue one) and Flixotide as his preventer... the Flixotide one is called Flixotide Junior...so im fairly sure it would be safe.. and the doc's have prescribed it.
Sorry not much help!

DS is what I would call a mild asthmatic. He is only 3.5 so a little hard to dx, let alone how severe.
He used to be on flixotide and ventolin. The flixotide was not helping and the doc put him on a chewable tablet form called Singulair. It's working great, I still have to be careful with being out late at night and the cold air but so far so good.
Have never heard of alvesco- although I don't know many asthmatics so I'm not really 'in the know'. Hope you get it sorted. ;)
Both my boys (and myself) have cold induced Asthma. They both have flixotide junior and ventolin.
I've never heard of Alvesco though..

yep similar. Only my daughter and one son. LOL
I have no idea about alvesco, either. Flixotide Jnr, seems to be the main preventar prescribed for children.
Ceratide, and a couple of others may also be prescribed.
Have you googled to see how long Alvesco has been on the market? Could it be a drug that your doc is paid to endorse? Or something?

Hi
My DD is 27 months and is currently taking flixotide 125 two puffs twice a day and ventolin when required.
She has been admitted to hospital 4 almost 5 times in the last 6 months and is always given redipred (oral steriod), after our third admission my DD was prescribed singulair which was good but unfortunatly not strong enough.

My DS used to be on Ventolin and Serevent (preventer). Also used Singuliar too. The Singulair was fabulous - can't recommend it highly enough (if it's appropriate for your child). Fortunately he seems to have outgrown his asthma. Wish I could!
Flixotide is a common one too. It also comes combined with Serevent in the form of Seretide, but not sure if you can get this one for kids (although our paed had their promo purple dragons in her office so I would assume so!).
I've also never heard of Alvesco.
