View Full Version : She doesn't really `get' her tippy cup...

DD is 11 months old and unfortunately I've never really been that dedicated in introducing a tippy cup to her. I used to feel bad that all the other mothers I knew with kids the same age had their kids drinking water out of tippy cups around 8 months, but I just kept forgetting to do it with DD :o

She can drink out of one easily, she has no trouble with the spout, but she doesn't get that she has to tip it up to get anything to come out! :D She just holds it and sucks on it (so cute) and seems quite resistant to actually tipping it backwards to drink it.

She has one particular cup that she holds by the rim and she knows she has to tip that, but the others I've tried she just doesn't get it! She is able to drink from a normal cup, too, but it's a bit messy.

Is this something that just comes with time and practice? Will she do it one day and it will just `click'? Or should I forget a tippy cup and just get her to drink straight out of a normal cup? It's not a big worry for me, as she's still getting a bottle three times a day and shows no sign of slowing down with that (which is fine by me) but I don't want to leave it too late until she gets used to other types of drinking vessels.

Yep they eventually get it. My daughter was well over 1 before she got it now she has the opposite problem. If she has one those cups with the lid and straw she tips it up and then gets covered in liquid rather than it going in her mouth. She'll get it one day.
