My DS has a pretty bad eye infection and i need to put drops in his eyes every 2/3 hours.
Its absoultely impossible to get any in his eyes without soaking his whole face first. Does anyone have any ideas how i can get them in his eye without soaking my poor lil man.
Thanx

I don't know if this would help, but DD gets (and has just finished a bout of) conjunctivitis. We wash her eyes 2 or 3 times a day with cotton balls dipped in saline.
Could you put enough of the drops onto cotton wool so that they are quite wet & wipe it across his eyes gently? From what I can see when we do this with the saline, some of it does get in her eyes (well, it must do for it to work so well!)
What sort of an infection does he have? If it is similar to conjunctivitis, we've found that saline works better than eyedrops anyway!

i think it could be conjunctivitis but the chemist gave me BLEPH10 to put in his eyes. His eyes have greenish/ yellow stuff in them and weeping. It seems as though the drops hurt him the way he screams when i finally get some in his eyes.
I just rang that new 24hr nurse hotline and they said just to keep cleaning his eyes before the drops go in..
Im not too happy using the drops!! I might try the saline. Only thing is everything is shut in my town and the only place i could probably get some is the hospital and thats just a nightmare on a friday night!
I make up my own bath wash when DD's eyes get mucky.
Just use boiled kettle water and add some salt. Has always worked for me!

I just make up some in a small container (washed well and rinsed with boiled water if it can't be sterilised)
and make up a fresh batch every day.

Yep the luke warm water and salt works good.
I had to give my 3 yo eye drops. I had to virtually sit on him with his arms pinned under my legs, then get his eyes open for the drops. It is hard and it is upsetting to see your kids in pain, but it had to be done. Especially for bad infections as saline or salt water just cleans it dosent neccesarily get rid of the infection.
I know my little guy is a lot smaller but we had him at the paed for his 6 week check up and in 5 secs his eye was fixed. He was getting the yellowy green gunk in it and after a sleep he would barely be able to open his eye. We got Bleph10 as well but found it didnt help. The paed said in babies it is most commonly a blockage in there little tear duct. Usually caused by a bit of dried up milk, from if they have had a bit of a spew. He got his little finger and pressed right in the corner of Blake's eye, quite frimly gave it a massage and since then we have not had to clean his eye again. And we were cleaning it 2 hourly. To find the spot, try it out on yourself, you can feel it moving around.this is the bit you are going for.
Best of luck.

Claire's had a few bouts of pretty bad conjunctivitis and we've had the best luck with the saline. Usually clears it up within hours.
My Dr is great because she is not one of these Dr's who'll just try & fix everything with pills. She suggested the saline & she was right - it was the best!
We have never bought saline, although you can do. As Emysmum said, just cooled boiled water & a bit of salt in a sterile (or very clean) container. I'm not 100% sure of the water to salt ratio, but I use about a half a teaspoon in probably 1/8 cup of water??
