Im pregnant and we are moving out of our rental so im doing the big clean up now. Awhile back someone mentioned a good way they clean there oven racks i quite remember it. i think this was it but would like it if someone could confirm it. Soak oven rack in troph that is lined with alfoil and soak in warm water with bi carb soda. If this is correct how long for and how much bi - carb
Is there a good chemical free way to clean the oven and oven glass. Its not very dirty but needs to be cleaned.
Any other helpful tips for around the house will be much appreciated aswell

I had this fabulous, FABULOUS stuff that was entirely natural & made from orange oil (as all good cleaning products seem to be these days!!)
A friend of mine gave it to me & since we moved house, I can't find the tub of it any more! :crying: So I'm sorry to say that I couldn't tell you the exact name of it, or even who makes it. It wasn't a brand I'd ever heard of before.
It comes in an orange & white tub.
It is so natural that you don't need to wear gloves when using it to clean the oven (in fact you can even use it to clean your hands!!), there are no harmful or noxious fumes (it smells wonderful!) and it does such an amazing job!! Much better than any chemical laden spray I've ever used. I put some on the oven door which had some thick, baked on goo and after about half an hour or so, I just wiped it off with a scourer (wiped, not scrubbed) and it just came completely clean!! Literally like new!
We even used it once to get a spot of oil off the driveway & it worked a treat!
So if you can find it (or something similar) I would highly recommend it.
My dh does Defence house cleans for a living and the best way to get ovens clean is with steam!
Put a steamer in the oven for about ½ an hour an dthen go back and everything just wipes off!
Sorry ... I should have specified ... a wallpaper steamer ... make sure it has plenty of water in the reservoir, turn it on and put it in the oven, close the oven door and seal the gaps with towels ... in approx ½ an hour the inside of the oven and the oven racks should just wipe clean with only minimal extra scrubbing with hot soapy water to get any stubborn spot off!
Believe me ... when you clean several ovens a day and are contracted to the defense forces to do it (extremely fussy!) ... you find the most efficient and quick method you can!
Oh, and I said dh works as a cleaner, well I was wrong ... he finished that job today ... as of now he is a postie parcel delivery contractor!:smiliedance:
I vouch for bi-carb, this is what I use. Sprinkle it on - dont go too sparingly, get a cloth with a bit of a scrubby bit on it, get some hot water, rub the bi-carb in and it all comes off beautifully. Best to do it on a warm oven. Same for the glass.

I know this isnt natural, but last night I was reading a take 5 magazine and it said to put ammonia in a garbage bag and soak the racks in there overnight and in the morning they will be so easy to clean.
I am a totally natural person when it comes to cleaning, so I dont know if I would do this.

Mrs Miggins, is this (http://www.citroclean.com.au/) the brand of stuff? Woolies/safeway stock this - (if this is, in fact, the stuff you're talking about!)

I went and bought gumpton today - what else can i use it on? So if i clean it in the oven and window door of the oven it should work - will it work better in a warm oven? Also can you scrub the oven racks with it aswell and will it do a good job?
If the oven itself is completely filthy you can always get a metal saucepan/dish fill it with boiling water & lemon and place it in the oven on max for ~10-20mins, then just open the door and let the hot air 'whoosh' out and rub over the interior with a clump of cloth so as not to burn your hand on the hot interior. Or alternatively task your husband to do it ;)

barry thanks
the oven is not filthy its just the glass window part of the door and the oven racks. that sounds like a good idea. but i doubt it would still remove the splatter bits on the window. Pitty i have packed all my pots and pans aswell:(

heh Jif and a non scratch scourer work on the glass..
That 'easy off' oven cleaner mentioned, is the best one Ive ever found though - as you dont have to touch it at all - you just rinse all the **** off when its done.
But I can understand you dont want to be around it - so make Hubby do it lmao!!
It seriously doesnt need to be scrubbed or anything.

Check for an expiration date on the bottom of the can... I have no clue - because mine is never around for that long hehe, but I would guess, provided there is no expiry date/warning on the label, then it is ok.
And obviously if the can was rusty or corroded I wouldnt use it.
