how often?

Hi girls,

we had some success with dd using the potty last night, however she sat there for 2 hours before having a wee. At first she was scared telling me that she didnt want to do it. After about an hour i said to her lets stop now and try later... she then became determined and hence the 2 hour sit... with a very red bottom from sitting on the plastic for so long.

She is in undies today I waited until she had done a poo then put her in undies, I asked her every 15 mins if she needed to do a wee and she said no. she then came and told me that her tracksuit pants were wet (she was very calm about it, i thought she would have been really upset) so she is in clean undies and pants. I was wondering how often i should ask her if she needs to do a wee and how ofteh i should sit her on the potty as i dont want her sitting there for 2 hours everytime, but also want her to start understanding when she needs to go. She is nearly 3 and this is our first day of trying

A few things,

* Ask her to tell you when she needs to wee or poo, at least then it is giving her some control.

* Really only encourage her to sit on the potty when she actually needs to wee/poo

* Reminder her to tell you as often as possible and give her lots of liquids, so she will have lots of opportunities to practise.

* Lots of accidents means lots of learning.

Hi,

i think it all depends on the age? and weather they are ready or not.

My DD has been training since she was 12mths, and has been pretty good, we are stil training now but am waiting for the warmer mths to come.

DD tell me when she needs to do poo and i mainly put her on the potty when she wakes up, and after i change her nappy and b4 she has a bath. (but notice when no nappy is on she wants to go to the potty, like when shes in the bath and needs to go she will call me)

i have tried her in undies once, (when 16mths) where at first she wet them alittle and told me and contuinue her business once we took her pants off and onto the potty. i then tried again left her in undies and said dont make them dirty.. and then she though she was miss indepentent and sat on the potty with her undies on (poor thing!) and was so proud of her acheievement, (shetold me she had done it)

I do beleive the undies do make a difference in learning to potty train, i just hope the warmer months will hurry up so i can put her in her undies!!

Just needs heaps of patients.
