hiya! well im after ideas as i've googled but the same old ones keep coming up..
basically i want to give people the choice of buying a pressie or giving money as i know its not liked by everyone.. just not sure how to say it..

so.. if you had a wishing well how did you write it?

thankyou :)

This is what we wrote...

"Many of our friends and family have asked us for gift suggestions. We feel strongly that the most important present we could receive is your love, friendship, best wishes and company on the day.

For those of you who would still prefer to go with tradition and honour us with a gift, we will have a wishing well available at the reception, and any contributions will go towards our making our dream of a special honeymoon come true..."

I think people would warm to the idea of a wishing well more if they knew what you were planning on spending the money on.

I would also suggest that you don't include this in the main (formal) part of the invitation but enclose a seperate note. We made a seperate booklet which contained accommodation info, maps and transport and we included Wishing well information on this.

My cousin's was something along the lines of:

"Our worldly goods are plentiful, as such.
On our wedding present list, there really isn't much,
So a gift of money is all we ask
To help us on our worldly task."

This is what was in the invite we have just received-

Because at first
we lived in sin
We've got the sheets
and the rubbish bin.
So what do you get
for the Bride & Groom
Whose house is set up
in every room?
A wishing well
we thought would be great
(but only if you wish
to participate)
A gift of money
is placed in the well
Then make a wish...
but shhh don't tell!
And in return
for your kindness I'm sure
That one day soon
you'll get what you wished for!

thanks girls.

now i must ask.. what do you use as a wishing well? the lady who is decorating the reception venue has 2 that look more like letterboxes.. hiring is $95 though. so i wasnt keen on that idea..

We borrowed ours - but you don't necessarily have to literally have a (traditional) wishing well if you don't want to hire one...

You could have large gift box wrapped up in the colours of your theme (with a slot cut into the lid for the envelopes to go).
A popular idea nowadays is to have one of those gorgeous vintage looking birdcages (and you could decorate the insides with silk flowers etc.) and people just push the envelopes through the bars. You can buy one of these at the reject shop for about $30.
I've seen people use lovely big glass apothecary jars, vases, one couple used an antique suitcase (the money was to pay for honeymoon), another couple used a dollhouse becaase they were saving up for a deposit.
There are a lot of creative ideas that you could work around, matching your theme or some special element of your venue.
Are you working with a particular theme? What are your colours?

Once we’ve replaced the old with the new
We can look back and say it was thanks to you!

no theme.. but our colour is fuschia.. more dark pinky purple over the usual bright pink colour :)

I WAS one  (working for reception venues and hotel groups in Bris and Gold Coast) before I became a SAHM.
I miss it a lot, can't you tell - weddings especially are my passion. :)

This is sweet and a lot nicer than many I have read. One thing to think about though is that many people would likely want you to know what (ie how much) they gave, and would probably like to give you a card with the money. Perhaps you might want to consider leaving out this part.

Love the fuschia colour you are talking about.

our home has been made with love & care,
most things we need we've already got,
and in our home we cant fit a lot!

This one was in a invite for a wedding I went to last month I loved it.
I hate the whole money thing as a present but I understand as I have a home filled with everything I need to so when I saw this in the invite I thought it was sweet esp if you wish to participate bit.
I also went to another wedding this year which the bride had just written no presents, money for honeymoon insted:eek: No nice poem, no if you wish to participate IMO it was tacky/rude and I didn't like it hence they got less:laughing: and a cr@ppy card

:laughing:SC! i dont blame you for that hehe. that is extremely rude.

i actually dont care if people show up with nothing, i just wanted them to have options iykwim. because i know if i went to a wedding & there wasnt a 'wishing well' i wouldn't even offer giving money.. i'd just get them a present.

thanks YM, september :) its all coming together really well.. we only decided recently.
