Hi
My son will be 2 in 3 weeks time and he has been showing signs that he is ready for tt. When I put him down for a nap during the day he has been pulling his nappy off and then sometimes pees. I have been slowly but not trying to push him into tt by letting sit on the toilet before a shower and sometimes after a sleep and most of the time he does a wee.
When he goes to the toilet before a shower he only wants to sit on the toilet so he can use toilet paper then he puts it in the toilet without even doing a wee then he wants more paper.
When he does do wees i give him lots of praise and tell him he is a good boy for doing wees in the toilet.
Does anyone have any tips on how to make it easier so that I can fully tt him?

My 18 month old is ready as well but I am waiting for summer to come - I think toilet training in winter (especially a boy) will be ten times harder - just an idea.

Hi crazymuma
Thats what I was hoping to do.
At the moment if he wants to use the toilet i let him go for it but at the same time trying not to push him because then he might rebel and not want to use it.
I have tried tt a couple of times but he was never ready and now he is showing signs i really want him tt so I can possibly stop buying nappies until the next bub comes along at least.
I think you're off to a great start! Just keep praising him and let him do it in his own time.
My dd2 tt herself for poops at 16 months and is tt'ing herself for wee's. I'm not pushing the subject. If she doesn't want a nappy on after a change then she's free to do as she pleases. If she brings me a nappy, I put it on her. The beauty of it is I don't need to constantly ask her if she needs to go to the toilet, pop her on the toilet every hour or so, or wait for 15 minutes to see if anything happens. She goes of her own accord, I high five her if she does a wee and she gets to use the toilet paper herself...she likes that. I put her in undies to see what would happen and she was pretty good but not fully ready so I stopped it. However at my parent's the other day she came running out to me saying 'mummy, mummy poo, mummy, pooooo' so I took her to the toilet and she did a wee all of her own accord (poo is her cue for everything...a wet or dirty nappy and when she needs to go to the toilet, no matter what it is she needs to do).
It's so much less stressful this way!

Just remember with boys its easier to make it fun for them. Paint a target on a tree outside and let them try and hit it. My son was trained just before he turned two. I just put him in jocks and let him go - honestly took about a week. A coloured ping pong ball in the toilet when they start standing up to pee is great as well - teaches them to aim (something most adult men suck at)
