I've just been looking up old classics on YOutube and wondered what rock anthems you consider essential to your child's music education and what they enjoy?
Our faves today have been Bye bye miss American Pie, the original version (yep, I still know all the words) and Blister in the Sun (yes I know all the lyrics arent great but he doesnt understand the conotations yet and the 'let me go wild' part was well enjoyed :D. He also loves Bohemian Rhapsody.
Does music in your home consist more of "kiddies music" or real music? OUr would be more real music and our own made up stuff.

My kids listen to all kinds of music and dance accordingly - my 16 month old DS does the most beautiful ballet-style twirling to classical stuff! One song guaranteed to get them both going crazy is the ping pong song by Operator Please. Hilarious.
The girls favourites (in some attempt at order) are:
1. Voodoo Child, Rogue Traders
2. Pump It (Louder) by Black Eyed Peas
3. The Immigrant Song by Led Zep (thanks to the Viking Kittens)
4 The William Tell Overture, by Rossini
5. The Hallelujah Chorus by Handel
6. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star by the Wiggles
7. The "We Did It" Song" (and dance) from Dora ...
Annika also has a general love for Pink, can pick an AC/DC song at a 1000 paces, and says "Mummy's favourite!" everytime Guns 'n' Roses comes on.
The girls musical taste has been largely formed by our "ballet classes" in the kitchen, to our ITunes - hence the dancey favourites. Nick plays classical music in the car a lot, while I listen to the radio.
Real music all the way
Some artists (not necessarily songs) we consider necessary to our DD's (and future children's :p) musical education...
Beatles
Sting and the Police
Neil Diamond
U2
Fleetwood Mac
Credence
Jackson 5
Blues Brothers
Beegees
Abba
Elton John
Crowded House
Billy Joel
Peter Gabriel
Cat Stevens
Gee I think I'm showing my age here!
I'm actually ashamed to admit that the one song guaranteed to get my 13 month old DD dancing around is Beyonce's "All the single ladies"!

DD has her own children's music CD's and DVD's although these are mainly 'normal' songs with a kiddie twist iykwim.
As for the other stuff, DD cops it all!

I had all these great ideas about which music I was going to play to DD - I purposely even bought beatles CDs to play.
She is now 4 and has her own ideas though, she hears stuff and asks for it.
At the moment our favourites are Boney M and the Bee gees, she really likes "No woman no cry" so I may buy her a Bob Marley CD.
She also loves the clip of Susan Boyle :o
So I would have said:
Beatles
Queen
Chicago
Mama and Papas
U2
Split Enz/crowded house (she hates them and screams at me to change the CD)
Powder Finger
aussie alternative in general
but no DD prefers 70's trashy euro pop :flowerz:

DS has always liked a bit of heavy metal, used to calm him as a baby. When we get the stereo system set up again they will hear lots more, mostly 90's heavy metal
Guns'n'Roses
Metallica
Nirvana
are the main ones we love, there's heaps more I can't think of right now
