Hi everyone,

First pregnancy and very excited!
Morning sickness - Firstly needs to be changed to 24/7 sickness!

I know we all have to put up with it but was wondering if anyone had little tricks that got them through it even if it was for an hour of feeling a little ok.

I know fresh ginger in hot water etc... but any other tips?

ohhhh i feel your pain.....

here are some things that helped me...

chewing gum
ice water with a splash of apple/orange (too much acid in a whole glass and water needed something )
If I ate something really small every 30 min e.g small apple, biscuit, piece of cheese.
Always have some ziplocked bags of snacks with you wherever you go - when you feel start to get the wave of nausea - EAT
Slurpees mmmm so cool....
toast with peanut butter.
eat as soon as you get up - it works.
ginger beer or lemonade - small sips!!
Dont ever try NOT to be sick if you need to be. I found that if i just had a vomit - I felt better for awhile and could move on.
Dont eat rice - it made me sick and it dosent come up when you vomit - GROSS.
Try not to eat greasy food if you can help it !!
This is what worked for ME - but i know how you feel and its such a crap feeling you are literally willing to try anything.

The best bit of advice is to eat small very often !!!!!

Good luck - hope you feel better soon ! X

I used Blackmores Morning Sickness Formula:yes:. It didn't completely get rid of it but I was able to function after that, otherwise I would be stuck on the couch feeling nauseas all day and night. I never threw up though, thankfully, I almost did, lots!!:D

I might have to try those JackzMumma because right now I am stuck on the couch feeling nauseous all day.

Oh, and I wish I'd read this thread before lunch today. I decided that rice didn't sound too unappealing and ended up feeling worse than before!!

Oh yeah, it sucks when you think "oohh I'll have that!!" then you think about it for a second, then you go "oh yuck, no thanks". I actually didn't get any M/S this pregnancy, but I'm still doing the food aversion thing. but I was really bad with my boys!!

Oh Im with you it should be all day sickness. I'm still getting it at 30 weeks and have tried soooo many different things.

Some days literally not even a cup of tea will stay down - on those days I live on lemonade icypoles and barley sugar lollies.

ginger and watermelon are a trigger for me and a sausage roll normally helps on the bad days , so totally the opposite of what most books say.

Really cold ice water also helps.

These days the foam from toothpaste also sets me off in the mornings so a friend suggested I change to kids toothpaste  works great, still use normal toothpaste at night but the kids one in the morning has been a godsend.

Some night times I was up about 2-3 times being sick, so I discovered that taking a teaspoon of honey after wards eased the burning sensation in my throat and made me less likely to be sick again (so wish I discovered that trick before 28 weeks).

Oh and a migra stick (used for people that get migrains) works great for me when I can smell something that is setting me off, I keep one close to me everywhere I go and smell it if an offending odor comes my way.

I hope you find something that works for you soon. just remember to make sure that you keep your water intake up, and if you're not keeping that down try and sip slowly on a sports drink.

good luck

Hello!

I certainly feel your pain, I had 24/7 sickness for 16 weeks!

i found the sea-sickness wrist bands helped a bit. Get them from the chemist - they have a little ball that presses on an acupressure point in the wrist. Didnt get rid of it completely, but helped me function..

Also, get heaps of sleep! Again, doesnt get rid of the sickness, but if I was tired I felt worse and sometimes the going to sleep was the only way I could get through.

COngratulations on your pregnancy! Hope this helps:hugs:

I gave acupuncture a go after a friend had tried it and said it helped her. It was the best thing I ever did. First week I felt so much better lasting for about 3 days - it took the edge off the 24/7 sickness, 2nd week 4 days and following week 5 days, the day after I felt awesome no sickness or tiredness what so ever. Each time you go it lasts a little longer and more effective. I wish I had known about it with my first pregnancy and as soon as I was starting to feel sick with this one. I started the treatments at 11 weeks finally my ms stopped at 15 completely. Definitely worth it and if you are with a health fund it's a lot cheaper.

I have been told that eating protein first thing is a way to combat MS, and also eating before you even get out of bed! - I wondered about the protein thing and a link to eating fast food - as most fast food involves protein so that might explain the cravings!
I found drinking warm water as aposed to cold water worked too.

Congratulations on your first pregnancy.

MS sucks. I had it really bad, I threw up alllllll day every day. Even at 1am when I'd wake to go to the loo :( I tried every trick under the sun but nothing worked for me until I was about 18 weeks then I was able to stomach food and drink and keep some things down.

Gingerbears from woolies, they're little ginger lollies and they worked great, peppermint tea, water crackers, gingerbeer and gingerale, vege soup with not a lot of seasoning and SLEEP! I threw up at least once a day through my entire pregnancy, the day I had my son I even threw up . It was funny though I felt so sick all the time but i was so happy and couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

Also travel calm from health food stores.

Hi,

I diddn't find out I was PG until I was almost 19 weeks & oddly didn't get morning sickness. Looking back now, I used to eat sultanas when I got up, maybe that helped? Maybe psycologicaly I wasn't expexting to be sick as I didn't know or maybe I was jus really lucky!
