Not that i want to be too controversial, but Australia are very lucky that Harry Kewell did not get suspended the other day for his tirade against the Ref.:o
There is irony to the fact that he scored the goal that put Australia through to the next round. He is one lucky critter.
But congratulations Australia for making it through to Round 2 - Good effort.:smiliedance:
Of course, Caroline, but there are many other "what ifs" that could be debated too - like what if the ref had awarded the two penalties that he should have awarded?
So, I choose not to get involved in the "what ifs" and just say:
WOOHOOO!!!!!!
I come from a land down under......
Go the Aussies!:smiliedance:
It was pretty thrilling wasn't it?? Edge of the seat stuff, until the last two minutes when confusion reigned, but nonetheless, thrilling.:smiliedance:

Are they definitely through?
I thought someone had to beat someone else by less than 3 goals, for Australia to go through.
(More confusing than golf, these rules)
I assume Australia hasn't got a very good chance of actually winning the world cup, so i guess i'll go for........ Germany? Are they even in it LOL???
PS your son has a great birthday, same as mine :D

we only needed a draw against Croatia to go through
ooh, it would've been hard in your house jennine79 - I'm sorry :o but oh so happy :p
I think we're a chance against Italy and who knows?? Guus took south korea through to the semi's - we could do the same, or better!!
I faithfully set my alarm for 5am & kicked DH out of bed when it went off to make me a cuppa! :D What an amazing match! Go the Socceroos! :smiliedance:

good team effort , good goalie arent we so lucky to have such a brilliant coach which has brought socceroos so far into the world rating...not long back australia lost 7-1 to croatia and also lost to turkey last year every game is a battle from trying to qualify to winning the cup as every team playing want only one thing....aussie aussie aussie oi oi oi......
if you like queen just think of ..another one bites the dust and we are the champions.....wooohooo

It doesn't bother me, I don't like soccer. Give me a State of Origin rugby league game any day.
even though im from england i have been watching both in the middle of the night! ( oh im tired ), i actually think australia have played far better that england! the matches have been great.
Still i do hope we (england) win the cup, but i very much doubt it:laughing:

yes I think that ref made a few slip ups......
Lol yeah just a few. Overall though I think he was more evenhanded than, say, Merk was.
The two main things were:
He missed the tackle on viduka which should really have resulted in a red card for Simunic.
He missed the handball by Tomas, which was disgraceful.
Also the ending... my lord it was chaotic. Simunic ending up with 2 yellows and not leaving the field. Then croatia almost put two balls into play. Then Aloisi scored a third goal for australia a milisecond after the ref blew the full time whistle. THEN the ref gives Simunic a third yellow card when he shouldnt have been there in the first place.
I mean hell, if you are going to give a yellow card after blowing the full time whistle, why didn't you give australia that goal?! I lost out on $75 for that one!
The worst part was, the game should have run until 95minutes, but he blew the whistle at 93! So the goal should have counted!
Kalac was a disappointing choice by gus. I really missed Schwartzer :( I do feel sorry for him though, he must feel horrid for missing that easy goal. Poor guy hehe. He cost me money too!! *shakes a fist*
Im surprised the ref didnt card more croatians for shoving him. He carded one, but I think it was Srna who kept shoving him and the ref was just smiling! Weird as.
Australia were pretty lazy at times and were infuriating with their constant bad passes. Croatia I thought were playing dirty whenever australia came near their goal, its as though they'd been told to stop at nothing when it came to preventing australia from scoring. The amount of dodgy stuff that was pulled at the penalty area was shocking!
Great game to watch, though! Just a shame I didnt get my $75. :D
