So i was wondering if anyone knows anything about JET assistance with childcare? i was on the centrelink website and tried to look at a fact sheet but it keeps coming up as an error and won't load.

What i want to know if how do you qualify for JET assistance.

I heard once that you can get it for a period of up to 6mths if you start a new job. but not sure if that is full time only or what so any info appreciated.

Hey RmumR I have never heard of the 6 months new job thing. I'm still very angry about JET because they refused to pay it to me because I was studying a tertiary degree (and thus over 12 months). Another bubhub member did get it apparently, year by year, but I PM'd her and never heard back from her unfortunately to help me out. I tried applying for it twice on a yearly basis and they knocked me back twice.

I think it's valid 12 months study and volunteering but I'm not sure about work.

My personal experiences with JET were very poor indeed:no::no:.

Give the 136150 number and ask to talk to someone about JET.... Or all else fails, go into a branch and ask for an application, fill it out and send it back. You should know within a week or so whether u've been accepted (or not) and the allocated amount of JET assistance u will receive.

You need to be recieving a benefit from centrelink to be eligible and the amount of time you can claim it for depends on what you are doing. For example if you are working it would be up to 6 months, if you were studying, up to 2 years. You can pay as little as 10 cents an hour and they cover up to 50 hours of care.

thanks heaps for this info. that confirms what i heard about being able to potentially receive it for 6mths if you are working. I am currently on a SPP and will remain partially on it as won't be earning that much as only working part time.

Thanks for the link i will check it out now.

I got it while studying a tertiary degree.

I've thought JET was only for study and then when you've newly entered the workforce?

I don't know but if you look at the link it implies that you can get it if you are starting back at a new job but i am not sure so will have to sit on the phone until i get through to them tomorrow
