Hi
I would like to know if anyone has expressed their milk and used a special teat? I have ordinary Avent bottles and a Nuk bottle (given to me as presents - never used). I was wondering if breastfed babies have a tendency to like a special teat? I have heard Pigeon Peri Staltic (sp??) ones are good. I know that this is going to cost me money trying to find a suitable teat that DS likes but I would like to have a breastfeeding break every now and then.
Thanks

Hi Mel,
I was an exclusive breastfeeder, but for a couple of times I did crazy things like have dinner out with my hubby (- alone - ), I also used the Avent bottles, but with the Pigeon peristaltic teat - apparently it mimics the shape of a nipple most efficiently. DD certainly preferred it to the Avent teats that came with the bottle.

Everything Nickster said. The pigeon peristaltic teats were the only ones my DD would take. And it took lots of trial and error to find that out!
same with me. only use the pigeon ones.
What i do is if youre able to hold the bottle upside down and milk drips out of the teat its no good. your boobs arent like that the whole feed time. your bub will get lazy and want your boobies to be dripping milk.
the pigeon teats, bub has to suck it like a nipple to get milk out.
Also, my DS is nearly 10months, hes still on a newborn teat. i dont want him getting use to a fast flow teat. i have dealt with breast refusal for the first 3 months - i dont want to do it again.
good luck :)

Hey there, I used the Pur teats that are shaped for "natural sucking action". Oliver doesnt seem to be confused.
I express and bottle feed every feed for him EXCEPT for the one in the middle of the night, he doesnt suffer from any kind of confusion at that feed and doesnt pull on my nipples wrong.

Just to let you know that the pigeon teats can fit in the avent bottles. i used Avent but we often had alot of bottle refusal.

Thanks girls. I bought a Pigeon teat and am going to put it onto one of the bottles. I thought I might try it next feed, so we will see how we go. Could be lots of fun and games in our house this afternoon.
