Hi. I am mum to boy/girl twins who are nearly 7 weeks old! They barely sleep during the day and i was just wondering how long your new bubbas are awake for at a time during the day?

Kian stopped sleeping through the day and just catnapped for 15 mins to half an hour. But the last few days he's gone back to sleeping a lot during the day. Usually 2-3 hour stretches.
In genereal he stays awake after his first feed in the morning. He's great then and plays and we do things together. Then he gets drowsy after about an hour and a half and dozes a bit on and off.
After his 11am (ish) feed he dozes on and off till the next feed. Then he'll sleep for slightly longer periods.
After his 5pm (ish) feed he sleeps like a log and often needs to be woken for a late feed.

Hi my little girl Isabelle is 7 weeks today. She wakes up about 7am, feeds, playtime until about 8.30am then sleeps until about 11am, feeds, then playtime until about 1pm (which feels like it goes on forever) sleeps until about 3pm, then feeds then playtime till 6pm, another feed, then bath at 8pm, feed then asleep by 9-9.30pm. Sleeps till about 2-3am feeds then back till 7. Well thats what its been like the past few days. Sometimes she has more feeds, and in the afternoon she snacks alot, and has a few little catnaps. But she seems to stay awake a whole lot longer now then just a week ago, and if your not paying her attention she isnt happy.
How are you going with Twins?

Hi

I am Mum to Tate who is almost 9 weeks, we have no set routine and his daytime sleep varies. He tends to get tired after being awake for about 2 hours and will doze for 30mins - 1 hour through the day. If we are out however he is a trooper and his stroller can have him asleep for 2-3 hour stretches.

He's been quite a windy baby so I decided I wasnt going to begin a routine until his colicy symptoms go and I try to keep him upright for 30 - 60 mins after each feed. He's pretty good at night though and we usually get 6-7 hours between 11pm - 8am.

Good luck, must be tough with two to contend with, hope it works out :)

My son is awake for 45-1hr, then sleeps for 2-5hrs, and sleeps anywhere from 5-8hrs a night!

Those babes waking after only 1/2-1 hr are actually just stirring in a light sleep, if you resettle them, they will have a full sleep.

Check out the Kartine website, babes this age shoule be awake for about an hr and sleep for 2-4 hrs.

I thought that was what they should be sleeping but my two only have 10 min cap naps during the day and i dont know how to get them to sleep any longer... anyone have any ideas?

hi, are the bubs active while they are awake or just laying quitely and sort of dozing on and off.? I would just be trying to feed more if you think they will take it. How many wet nappies?? I tend to think if the babies are not upset, you dont need to worry, but if you think they need more sleep, and you want them to sleep more, I would give more feeds. Also dont rush to get them out of the cot when they do wake, wait and see if they resettle themselves. At only 7 wks I would be expecting more sleeping and less active times. Marie.

My twins are almost 6weeks, and just starting to be more awake the last week or so (their corrected age is 1week though).

We have just started doing the sleep, feed, play routine, so that they are fed as soon as they wake, and then up for an hour, regardless of how long feeding takes, then off to bed. So if the feed takes 20mins, they play for about 30-40mins and if the feed is longer, they play for less.

They usually sleep for 2-3.5hrs (the 3.5hrs is night time) If one of them wakes before 2hrs, we usually try and re-settle - re-wrap, pat, rock, then pop in the sling when all else fails. Sometimes the last couple of days it hasn't been settling DD, so then i'll fed her again. I think she might be having the 6week growth spurt a bit early, so lettiing her feed a little more to increase my supply. She also seems to be more awake than DS, so sometimes he'll go to bed before her.

My oldest was a catnapper, and it is well worth persevering with re-settling as it gets harder and harder the older they get.

My DD is 14 week's old and we've been having the same problem with catnapping. What i found was that i was getting her up after 45 mins and she was still tired so she'd get grumpy withing 15 mins and i'd have to entertain her until her next feed. What i started doing was leaving her in the cot once she woke after 45 mins and normally she just talks to herself or has a little whinge and then goes back to sleep for at least another hour. If she wakes up crying after the first sleep cycle i go in and put her dummy in and she normally goes back to sleep again. It's trial and error really, my DD would always wake up grumpy so i knew she needed more sleep but some baby's only need lots of little naps throughout the day.

Good Luck!
