View Full Version : Driving from Melbourne to Brisbane... Snow?? Help!
We're drivinghome from Melbourne to Brisbane tomorrow morning.. I was just wondering if theres anywhere we can see snow on the way back without spending a heap of money to go to a resort??
We've looked on the map.. We don't mind detouring out west through ballarat, or east.. We need to be careful not to add too many hours to our trip otherwise we won't get up far enoough to get a motel that night.
Soooo.... We'll be travelling up the Hume highway to go home.. Is there anywhere we can stop on the way back up to see snow (well, we WOULD like to touch it :p:laughing:), or is it too early in the winter season? We just dont want to have to spend a heap of money to see snow for 10 minutes then have to keep driving.
Awwwh... no replies.. oh well, no snow for us tomorrow
wait wait.. just looking up the snow report!
The bigger places like Hotham, Buller etc you will have to pay an entry fee but other places like Lake Mountain, Mt Margaret (near Marysville) etc it's good for snow play but may not have much snow.
I heard on the news that Wed was supposed to have a good snow dump?
first off.. you are in Melbourne??? and I didn't get a chance to book you for a photo session?? bah! :p
Lake Mountain seems to be your best bet. Bit of a detour.. depends where you are coming from really. Is does have snow atm. Not a HUGE amount, but certainly enough to build a snowman or have a little toboggan! check out where it is here (http://www.lakemountainresort.com.au/index.php?sectionID=3264&pageID=3395). Really lovely drive too.. so wouldn't be a waste of a trip. You'd get to see all the area that was worst hit by the bushfires too.. it's quite a sad, sobering but interesting sight.
where in Melb are you coming from may I ask?
Ahhh sorry Jag.. We've only been down here for the weekend for a family wedding. We were supposed to hire a car today to go and do some exploring by ourselves but we got in far too late last night.. DD was still up until 2 am, we slept in and we didnt end up hiring a car.. It's been a real flop of a weekend really. We didn't get to do any site seeing...
DH and I have really liked it down here so we're hoping to come back down sometime soon and I'll hopefully have some work down here.
We didn't get to do one single thing we wanted to this weekend other then have a look around the chadstone shopping centre.. I'm frustrated! Now we have a 2 day drive back to Brisbane to look forward too.
A few people now have said Lake Mountain but one of the snow reports said there wasn't much snow there. It sounds like it might be ok so we might swing past there anyway.
Bigglet, I heard the same thing about wednesday.. Pitty we have to head back in the morning
