since ive gotten a new username I thought I would re post this up here again :)

Emmas arrival

Sunday I went to the footy, during the footy I had what I thought was a few wind pains, but I thought nothing of it.
By the time I got home they had stopped so I didn't bother mentioning anything to my Nan about it, infact just before I went to bed I said to Nan "boy I hope I don't go into labour tomorrow, I have so much to do".
Anyway I went to bed at 10:30pm and at11:30 pm (those windy pains which in the end were contratcions) started up again, I didn't think much of them so I didn't bother letting anyone know and tried to get to sleep but had no luck.
Around 3:30am I went into my Nans bedroom and told her what was going on with these pains which were comming every 15-5 minutes, she said do you think you are in labour and im like NO I couldn't be (talk about denial).
I went back to bed and watched a DVD because it was quite clear there was no way I was getting any sleep.
Around 7am on the Monday I finally caved in and called the L&D ward and told them what was going on, they told me to come in.
After that phone call I got all teary thinking WOW this is really the real thing, anyway I got my Nan to ring my Mum and my NanaJan to get ready so we could all head off to the hospital!

At around 8 am I arrived at the hospital, I was greeted by a Midwife (Jordana) and taken to my room.

She checked me and told me I was only 2cms dialated.

10:45 am I was still contracting every 5-10 minutes and thats when Jordana came in and talked to me about my pain relief options.

At 11am the midwife came in and gave me a shot of Pethadine, antibiotics (for the group b strep) and maxalon, and after that I totally relaxed and was able to have a bit of a rest until around 2pm.

Midwife checked me around 2pm and said I was still around 2-3cms and said I was having a long first stage labour (well DERRRRRRRRRRRRR)
and there was also talk about possible induction.

3:15pm I was give more pethadine and antibiotics.

3:40pm I had another check and found that the baby was in posteria position.

till around 5:40 when I was checked again I was pretty relaxed and calm, the only thing that was bothering me was that the baby was still moving around!!!!

I had another internal exam around 6pm, the new midwife had just broken my waters and finally I was 4-5cms dialated!
They also put a clip on the babies head to moniter her.

Around 8pm I had the urge to push, the midwife told me not to, but then it got so strong that she ended up letting me push.

I ended up pushing for 2hours and 35 minutes.

Emma Elizabeth Louise was born at 10:35pm on the 17th of april 2006

I ended up having a second degree tear which has healed fine.

I have PND
But I wouldn't change anything for the world.

And for a first baby she was a week early!!!

Thanks for sharing your birth story, sounds like it all went well. Makes me nervous thinking about giving birth and it's still 6 months away for me!
