Ok thought I would buy a potty this week and start initial familiarization with it for my 16mth old.

Any tips and tricks.

Which brand of potty have you used and found useful and why?

Thanks there are lot of bells and whilstles out there and Im trying to sort out what is good and what I can do without.

thanks

Get the cheapest one you can find. Buy a packet of stickers and get your child to help you decorate their new potty.

My dd1 had a "dinasour potty", plain white cost a few dollars and she decorated it and loved it.

I honestly dont think you need the bells and whistles.

I bought a clear one from toysrus for a few dollars, I like being able to take a peak to see if there's wee without getting her to stand up coz man was she resistant in the beginning

I can you what not to buy. Do not buy fisher prices toilets. Made the disappointing mistake myself simply because it was the only one I could find with tray like catcher (making for easy removal). Found the wee guard thingo for the boys too easy to remove and lose. Complained about it to fisher price who sent me on my way telling me they have never read a complaint. Read up on the net found lots of complaints, posted here on the hub and found similar complaints and others being told the same thing by fisher price. Complained again and sent them the pages. Was yet again dismissed. Won't touch their stuff anymore if I can help it....

BTW We still have it as I paid $60 odd dollars for the damn thing. The whistles etc have never been used and I had to hot glue the shield thingo in. I found the tray stained easily from cleaning products. I would have got rid of it and made some money back but I am yet to find one that has the easy to remove tray yet..

I got a really cheap, basic one initially as we weren't sure ds was ready for TTing. But it was a bit small & uncomfortable for him for long periods of time.

So, I upgraded to a Baby Bjorn potty at $50. It has a higher back, so he can sit for longer and it's a bit higher off the ground making it more comfy on his knees. It also has 2 parts - the base and the 'bowl' so you can remove the bowl to tip out the contents. Very happy with it. If only my ds would actually progress on TTing ... but that's a whole other issue!

We have the Baby Bjorn one and love it, very comfy for DS and I like that it has the removable bowl part for emptying. Also, it has rubber around the bottom so it doesn't slip. Was pricey at $50 but worth it.
