I don't always use tomato paste in my meatball and they always taste great. The sauce I make has onion, garlic and a teaspoon of beef stock with the tinned tomatoes. Hope this helps.

Mince
Breadcrumbs
An egg or 2
fresh herbs (or dried, but fresh is best)
grated vege's if desired
Some kind of flavour base - do you have a packet of powdered tomato soup? usually i put some stock cubes in, but you could use packet tom soup instead, to give them a tomatoey taste.

Chuck it all in a bowl. Mix well with hands. Must do it with your hands. It breaks down the fibres in the meat and blends the flavours into the meat. Plus it's fun :D

Shape into balls

You can coat them in flour, I sometimes put gravox in with the flour, makes a bit of a gravy in the pan. Fry in a frying pan, or bake in the oven in a baking dish. When they've cooked well, put the tinned tomatoes in with them. Simmer until thickened. Serve with linguini or fettucine. Buon Appetito!!:chef:

All I do when I make meatballs is throw the mince in a bowl with a little salt, an egg, some breadcrumbs, tiny bit of garlic, finely chopped shallots, and the most important ingredient is finely chopped parsley. I use heaps, it seriously makes a meatball. :)

I will cook tiny meatballs in the oven and serve them with sweet chili sauce as an entree or snack. Otherwise you can make bigger ones, cook them in the oven, then add them to a tomato base of your liking to add to pasta as a proper meal.

In your case, id make my meatballs as usual, cook em mostly in the oven, then id mix up a tinned tomato sauce with some chicken stock and herbs and onion and anything else I wanted in it, and finish off the meatballs in that before serving with the spaghetti. :)
