hi
we are going to check this place out to have our wedding reception. Our wedding is going to be small and it looks right up our alley!
has anyone been there for a function before (wedding, engagement party, birthday) - what did you think?
Also we are thinking of booking
http://www.easyweddings.com.au/garden_weddings/wedding_location.asp?garden=66
for the ceremony - has anyone had a or been to a ceremony on the Brisbane river?
OR can recommend any other possible places?
thanks

I had my work Xmas party at Sassafras last year and it was really good! It was in the evening and they had all candles on the tables and fairy lights. It is pretty casual and relaxed for a wedding, but I think that would be awesome !
We had a BBQ and the food was great, and the cakes are delicious. You can BYO alcohol too, I think. Toilets are a bit dodgy though...
I got married earlier this year, we had a really small wedding (20 guests) at O'Reillys in the goldcoast hinterland. Would highly recommend it, only trouble is it is a bit of a drive to get there, all our guests stayed the night though, was really great. Didn't end up costing too much. PM me if you'd like more info.
Sassafras is the besssssst little hippy place, I love their food and atmosphere!

It's my fav place to eat in Brisbane, I used to sit and read the complimentary papers and order heaps of vegetarian food and gluten free cakes  Like all day long....:o
yum yum yum, and it is so pretty at night :goodvibes: and the staff are spunky;)
Oh gosh, now all I can think of is sassafras food :( First time I have missed the city in yonks.....mmm, scrambled tofu, sprouted bread, lentil patties,chutney.....the closest thing we get out here is pizza with tinned champignons or a side of pig
Sorry for the hijack.....back to weddings ! :cloud9::sunshine::goodvibes::flowerz:

oh dear!
I used to go to cafes in my former life, a life without a little person who refuses to go to the bathroom than proceeds to frantically grab at their crotch in public, all the while maintaining that "I do not need to do a weeee mummy, I just want to hold my GINA!"
and thus why I do not frequent cafes any more.

:laughing::laughing: I don;t blame you....!!
Never been to a function there - do they have them in the back court yard? Would it be a small-ish capacity?
I've had many delicious breakfasts there though...:goodvibes:
Ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb butter, anybody? Damn, and I just gave up dairy again. Now I'll be thinking about those hotcakes all night...
ETA: I got distracted with hotcakes... Re the other wedding question. Outdoor ceremonies are nice. My friend had a ceremony in the (city) botanic gardens in May. Really nice to be outside despite the inclement weahter. I went to a church wedding this month and it felt a lot stuffier.
