Ok, this probably sounds really stupid, but what is the difference between boys & girls disposable nappies and why the newborn ones are unisex???

I wondered this when we walked past the nappies in the supermarket this afternoon.

Oh and another dumb question......

Do nappies have an expiry date??? We are starting to stock up on baby things ready for TTC as we will be scrimping off the dole from September to January. I was looking at buying some nappies ready for that :bfp:

boys nappies have more absorbency in the front, girls have more near the girly bits:laughing:
newborn are unisex cause there isnt as much need for absorbency, ikwim?

not sure on used dates, but they would have batch dates, not sure about that one.

the other thing is, its hard to know which nappy you will like the best, iykwim?
i swore id only use huggies, but now, i use aldi/woolies during the day and huggies at night
(huggies work out about 40c p nappy on a good day, aldi is about 17c a nappy, big difference)

what about setting up a savings account? put the money asside and when it comes up, you can watch for specials then? (they're on special every fortnight or so)
but thats if you can keep your mittens off it;):p

This is just a wild guess lol, newborn nappies are probably all the same as there changed all the time.

And nappies for older bubs probably have more absorbancy in the front for boys and middle for girls as well as slightly different sizing or leg castings etc??

Check a big nappy box on whether they have expiry dates but I don't think that would be a problem. Ive used nappies which have been a year or more old .

Thanks so much for the help. If nappies are on special that often I might leave it for a while. Might also invest in a few small packages so I can decide when we do finally have children which one's we like. That way we won't be stuck with one's we don't really like.

tommo787 - the idea of a savings account would be good, but I'm a hopeless saver, I'd end up touching it. I have no will power when it comes to stuff like that!!!

Sorry for side tracking but what Aldi nappies do you get for 17cents each? I get them for 35cents each, I am buying toddler sizes. Do they go on special???

I always thought it was just different colours lol.. because I used to buy baby love toddler nappies and they are just unisex.

Since you mentioned a cost point of view, have you considered cloth nappies? I don't want to preach if you aren't interested however, so I'll leave this thread now.

tiera3, we did consider cloth nappies as an option, but decided against it for our first child at least.

Amethyst - I was the same, I just thought they had different colours, but now I'm confused if there are just unisex ones for all ages.
