View Full Version : Portacot recommendations
Can anyone give me any good portacot recommendations. When DD1 was born portacots weren't recommended coz of the safety factor, but I know they are now up to standard.
Our daughter is already 10 mths, and we only want to use it occasionally. We have friends coming from SA in August with their daughter who will be 15mths, so we'd like to have it for her to use aswell.
Something not too expensive, but no skimping on quality.
I've been looking on ebay but I don't really know what to look for in them. I'd prefer brand new.
One I've looked at is the PLAYLAND COT BY LOVE'N CARE. Any thoughts?
come on!!!! I know there's ppl out there with portacots!!!!! HELP ME!! PLEASE!:crying:
We are using the Graco one we bought for DD nearly 4 years ago.
It folds up really nicely which is probably important. It also has like a sportsbag kind of thing so you can pack it up and travel.
Here's what I would look for.. compact fold up, but decent sized when open. Lighter the better. Sturdiness. (i would go for darker colour.. they hide dirt much better than the brightly coloured ones. )
Sorry, been a while since i've looked at portacots.
Maybe look aroound at ne ones, assess to your requirements, then look them up on ebay.
Sorry couldn't be much more help.

Bewteen my family we have 4 portacots (for 1 baby:eek: ) They are just not that portable.
Most of them are pretty similar, we have found the "best" one to be the one that my DD will actually sleep in.
There is no standard size, some are too short, some have thicker mattresses than others, some are fiddly to fold up.
I have other Love n Care stuff (regular cot, pram, bassinet) and have not had a problem with them.
The port a cot we like best however doesn't have a brand and we bought it from a wholesaler. (it's got 6 legs instead of 4, is sturdy, folds up easier and has a soft matress)

yeah, heaps I know!
We have a Steelcraft one and I think its lovely
It cost us about 150 which is reasonable
It has a bassinet and change table so that is handy
Also came with musical toy mobile that my baby hates!
But we have it turned off-no probs

Hi there
I got mine on ebay and like you had know idea on what i was looking for, but i did want something new.
I ended up getting the Swallow lite 'n' easy, though its not very lite it is easy and a really good size. I can see DS using ot for ages, is long and sturdy and has a good base/mattress.
I only paid $60 but i think that that was a bargin, even if you have a look around in the shops and find something that you like then have a look on ebay you might get a bargin like mine.
good luck
I got mine from Target at last years toy sale, it was about $80 I think, half the original price anyway. It has a bassinet insert, but doesn't have the change table part...I looked at a couple with those and didn't really like them coz they are quite low and I know if I was changing bub on it I'd have a sore back after a few nappy changes, sitting on the floor is easier for me if I'm not at home.
If you aren't in a hurry to get one, wait for Targets toy sale to start, they always have heaps of baby stuff cheap:thumbsup:
Thanks everyone!
I had a look in My Baby Warehouse yesterday, they have a sale on. They had about 10 different portacots, but even on sale they were still about $50-$60 more expensive than the same ones I've seen on ebay.
So I guess I'll probably keep my eye on the ebay ones and see what happens!
Gremily - are you taking into account postage costs on the ebay ones? and warranty? :)
Keep away from the winnie the pooh balls of fun portacot. We have one and one of the plastic hooks/attachment things on the change table broke off while I was trying to attach it to the cot. I'm just lucky that my bubs wasn't in it at the time. Plus the mattress has developed a lump in it.
Ive been thinking of returning it but I cant find my receipt :(
