Hi All
I got my blood test results, and the midwife said I have no rubella immunity. Should I panic?????
I am now 17 weeks along and getting a bit worried with school holidays and all I am trying my best to avoid places where there are a lot of kids. Is any one going through this aswell?

Thanks

Did you do anything different, I mean like avoid places, eat or drink certain things?

I had a rubella shot twice and it didn't work on me so I went through 3 pregnancies without it.

I was a little more careful than normal but not overly obsessive.

Just try to not worry too much and enjoy your pregnancy.

My immunity was intermediate prior to p/g and now whilst 19 weeks.
I was told by my midwife that I will have to get a top up after bubs is born.
Just stay away from children that may possibly have measels, german measels, chicken pox etc to be safe.

I catch the train every morning, do you ladies think its safe?
I guess I am a bit paranoid....... I just dont know what to expect with my first.

It is hard not to be paranoid but unfortunately you can't carry a can of glen 20 disenfectant spray with you everywhere. Even though you probably feel like it.:D

If it makes you more comfortable try and sit on a seat by yourself.

You should be fine. Aren't you already past the most dangerous time anyway?

You can carry antiseptic wipes with you if it makes you feel better. I do, but that's because everything feels dirty to me now, I think its part of being pregnant, or maybe its just that I have lost my mind, who knows.

Rubella is not really that common. Don't stress. You will be okay.

can anyone confirm about the most dangerous period? Because I am sure its in the first trimester. It seems to be for most things.

I just googled it a this came up:-

Most Dangerous Time in Pregnancy for Rubella Virus Infection
Teratogenicity is greatest in the first trimester, less in the second, and essentially none in the third.

i had no immunity in my 1st preg, just steer clear of ppl that might have it.

get the shot as soon as bubs is born.

I had no immunity with my ds and although it was in the back of my mind, I just decided that I couldn't do anything about it except avoid places where heaps of kids were (daycare, playgroup etc). My dd used to come to work with me everyday (it was at the in-laws house) so she didn't have the contact with other kids that could have put me at risk, so I guess I was lucky.

Both of my kids got rubella in 2004 ... it is a reportable disease and you are basically quarantined for 2 weeks or so. This induced cabin fever! I was so glad when we got the all clear! Mind you, I felt like an awful Mum with the inquisition that we got from the health department ... and all of the rules that they laid down ... felt like I was a child!

If the parent is being responsible, they won't take thier child to the local gp if they suspect it without talking to the doctor or nurse first who will arrange a time to meet when other patients (especially pregnant mums) are not around. Our gp has a seperate room where spotty kids can go and play so that they are kept away from others. The toys in there are sterilised constantly.

I was the same, had no immunity while pg with MJ. As soon as she was born they gave me a shot for it. Nothing to worry about :hugs:

I had no rubella immunity either.
Don't stress about it... I was working in a germy Childcare Centre during my first trimester!

I had no immunity with my first son and got a shot after I had him before I left the hospital. And again with this one  no immunity due sept. and I have been working with children right through this pregnancy with no problems :) careful handwashing is a safe practice and being aware of others your in close contact with.

does the shot not last forever then Wondermum? I didn't know that.

I have had the actual disease - I wagged school the day they gave out the jabs, and then I caught it when I was 23. Had a slight fever and a bit of a rash for a couple of days. But I have immunity forever now, as far as I know.

I think that some people reject it so the shot doesnt actually work. The midwife did tell me that i will get another shot after i have DD incase we decide to try for #2.
