as far as I am aware, cocoa beans (from which chocolate is made) contain caffeine.'

because it is naturally occurring within the cocoa bean, it is not listed as an ingredient as such.

Notice that chocolate and coffee and coke etc do not actually show caffeine as an ingredient.

So the answer is yes - I beleive that hot chocolate would contain caffeine.

Definitely does. My DS is super sensitive to caffeine in breast milk and I can tell you that anything chocolate will have traces (unless it is white chocolate which isn't chocolate at all!), how much is probably dependent on the quality, ie higher quality = more cocoa = more caffeine. Even Milo for instance does have some caffeine.

yep. anything with coco solids has caffeine. it can take up to 72 hour for a child under 2 to metabolize it.

So one teaspoon of the cadbury drinking chocolate has caffine... Is it bad enough to change our ways.

Should I be worried?

The caffeine in chocolate and chocolate drinks is only a little bit more than the caffeine in decaffeinated coffee which has from 1 - 5 mg per cup, whereas a glass of chocolate milk for example has 4 mg, and 30g of chocolate has about 6mg of caffeine.

I wouldn't worry too much... yes it's caffeine, but nowhere near the strength of coffee and certainly not a high enough amount to harm your kids I would think.

F can't even tolerate me drinking decaf coffee or a cup of tea, what a nightmare!

I wouldn't be worrying if there was no adverse effect on your son myself. Don't think a hot chocolate ever harmed anyone, unless you are my boy that is!

Milo has caffeine. I really doubt it is enough to have any effect on most people/babies/kids though.
