View Full Version : Cleaning toys
How often do you clean your bubs toys, plastic and soft. Do you do them just when they are dirty/spewed on or on a more regular basis???

When DS was younger I'd use that antibacterial spray on them to clean kill any germs, about once a week or so, clean clean them, not very often, only if they became visibly dirty...
I clean them with hot soapy water once a week. Not all of them, just the ones that need it.
The ones he plays with on his rug are generally okay but the ones we take out that get dropped on shopping centre floors etc I make sure I wash. Also any that DS1 has played with and left lying on the floor.

I used to with my first. With my second I don't care :D
Germs is good!
the soft cloth ones get a machine wash once a week, or a quick boiling if they are really nasty. the plastic goes into the dish washing every few days.
I change what my son has in reach to play with about every two weeks. So I spray and wipe the hard toys over then.

Not with regularity, just whenever I can be bothered or when I see one thats dirty. I believe in them needing exposure to germs anyway for immunity, so I'm not fussed.

I give them all a big clean once or twice a year, or if they really need it - other than that nope! I think germs are great for the immune system! :o
when little, I wipe everything over with milton (I use that cause I know its safe for them) on a regular basis, now I just do them every now and then, my youngest is just about 2

Am, never.
All this 'spraying' that you guys are doing is actually doing more harm than good. :)
I never do either unless spewed on or the dog licked them! Especially once she's crawling, she's on the floor all the time, what can you do? I also believe in germs being good for the immune system - DD is 11 months and hasn't been sick at all yet (touch wood!)
Oh, I do that a few times a day. At times it feels like all I do is cleaning her toys:rolleyes:
Every time she drops it I go and put it in Milton and wash it under cold water after so she does not get any Milton in her mouth...give it to her and it goes on the floor and I start all over again:laughing:...
We wear sleepers at home and clean floor often but every time she drops a toy it feels like it is all dirty and I need to clean it...
Sometimes I can not bear it anymore:) and I would just clean it with soapy water...
I also buy toys that I can attach to my bub so she does not drop it all the time...
But I am so tired of cleaning it every time she drops it, the problem is if I do not clean it I think she gets all the germs in her mouth and might get sick...
I think I am the sick one:laughing:
I think I am the sick one:laughing:
I think you might be right! I don't mean to be rude, but that must drive you nuts! It's a never-ending battle, sometimes I think I'm too slack about it all, but then I see my child is well, the house is not filthy.....
I think you might be right! I don't mean to be .....
perfectly fine as I know that you are right:)
oh the things I do I would not dare to write here:laughing:
I always thought that my mom was a bit nutty when it comes to cleaning...turned out that I am the same once I had a baby...
I was perfectly normal before!:D have no idea why I am so scared of germs once I had her:confused:

You're just being a good mum! In the early months I cleaned the few things she mouthed a few times, did them with the dishes basically, like teethers, but then once she was sitting on the floor, playing on the floor, I figured what's the point? Now I just gotta wash the floor more often!
Thank you:) it is better to think that I am good rather that I am a nut case:laughing:
I also hope I can relax one day about that:rolleyes:...

Unless they had something like spew on them, I just wiped them with a wet cloth and put them outside in the sun. The sun kills any nasty bugs without using chemicals or leaving residues. I do that once a fortnight or so.
As a side issue, there is some discussion in scientific circles that there is more allergies because we are too clean and sterilising/ using antibacterial products all the time. Not all germs are bad.

I certainly wouldn't be spraying them with anything like glen 20 . I give them a wipe over with baby wipes when I can see they are dirty. My sons comfort monkey's and teddy go in the washing machine every few months.

Isn't that an air freshener?
DD is 13 months. I have only ever cleaned ONE toy of hers because another baby spewed on it!!!
