Hi

My DD is 13 months old. She has been in child care since she was 8 months old for 2 days a week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays.)

I am lucky that I am a school teacher in the public education system and so my boss has to be flexible with the days I work. I chose the days I worked and how many days etc. My boss was very understanding.

Anyway, my problem is I have been offered an extra day at work. It is on a Friday, so not consecutive days which is a bit of a bummer. The point is, they will pay me as a casual for Fridays and for a casual day, I get paid $353 per day

DF and I live comfortably. The extra money will be handy but we are not desperate. I am unsure of the routine will be a bit funny for DD working 2 days, then off a day then back on. If there isn't a space for her at the child care centre, I am not going to take it.

Sorry for the long story but just wanted to know what would you do??? If you were very comfortable financially with the way you were living now, would you still take on an extra day or would you just leave it as you are???

I can't answer the question about the extra day financially cause I think it's completely up to you. There is no right answer. You need to weigh up your options and decide. Money alone for me is not enough to motivate me to drag myself to work.

As for disruption of 2 days on, 1 off, 1 on with childcare I don't think it's a problem at all. My ds is cared for by my mum on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. He's at home with both of us on weekends and with my dh on Tuesdays. It doesn't seem to bother him at all. There are just 2 places where he goes and he's used to both places.

Personally I think you would be crazy to knock back the extra day when getting that amount of money - maybe you don't need it but the savings will be nice.

My kids have always had a day off between daycare days - it has never worried them, I think it gives them a good chance for a quiet day in between.

personally i WOULDNT go for the extra day just for the money......
i would prefer to stay at home with the bub....especially if it isnt essential for u to get that extra bit of $$$

Thanks for your replies. I found out that the childcare centre doesn't actually have a spot anyway on Fridays which I am not disappointed about. Even if they did have a place for her, I still would have weighed up my options and not 100% I would have taken it. Fridays is lunch with my mothers group friends :D
