After I had DS I designed something that makes my life so much easier looking after a baby, and I would love to try and turn it into a business, but I have no idea where to start. I mean I have read the thread re starting a business and have actually had to apply for an ABN before (long story, still makes my blood boil) so no problem there. The thing is I have no idea whether or not to take out some sort of protection over the design/idea/etc and whether I should continue to handmake the item (I have made a couple) or get some backing and get them professionally made. Maybe I should handmake them for awhile and see how it pans out? DH and I can't really afford too much expense in doing this, but I want to know how I could develop this idea, and another that I'm trying to work the bugs out of? :detective:
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks.

Here is some easy to understand info on patents
http://www.abc.net.au/newinventors/txt/s1097642.htm

Here is the link to the Gov Dept that regisiters patents
http://www.actuateip.com.au/

Patents are definatley worth it even if you ony make them by hand for the first couple of months that way someone can buy the idea off you later on if you dont want to do it any more.

If you want some info on investors or capital just let me know and I'll give you a hand.

Almost forgot

One very important point is if you demonstrate, sell or discuss your invention in public or publish about it before you file, you cannot get a patent.

So dont do that!
