Hi everyone,
I have been reading articles regarding ADHD and ADD. I have been told my son may suffer from it.
I refuse to medicate my son with something that can cause stroke and heart attacks so I was looking for a natural remedy.
Here is a link
www.althealth.co.uk/services/info/supplements/Omega3.php
Just recently there was also a write up in the West Australian about the same thing.
I thought it might be useful to other parents.
I have just started my son on a supplement so :fingerscrossed: it will work or at least help.
I will keep everyone updated on how it is going.

I'm ADD.

I tried the fish oil. For about a week, it was GOLD. Seriously. Everything just started working. It was really amazing.

However, it could have just been the placebo effect, because after that, it didn't seem to do much.

Make of this what you will.

I put my 8yr old on Eye Q tablets last year. He was ALWAYS in trouble at school...walking around the classroom, running in the corridors, talking at inappropriate times, making noises. I noticed a HUGE change in him and he started to do really well in class. He used to be the last to finish things as he couldn't sit still, but after taking the tablets he was first finished all the time and the most attentive. I took him off them at the end of last year, but I said that if he can't maintain the level of effort, then he would be going back on them, but we are at the end of term 2, and he is still going strong.

I brought some for Brooke, but she can't swallow them and I refuse to cut them up and smell like fish for the rest of the day, so I'll just wait a few more months and try again.

Just a hint...buy them online, it's cheaper!!!!

I was only discussing this with a friend the other day. She suggested it as her son is difficult sometimes, and so is my DD.

You can get fruit flavoured chewable things from the supermarket ('Nature's Way - Fruit Smart', I got mine from Coles). My DD loves them and even asks to take them! I haven't noticed a huge difference yet, but little things are getting better. Whether its a placebo or not, i don't know, but it can't hurt to try, and the Omega 3's are beneficial for other things besides behaviour, so its all good!

I've just checked the Natures Way site and that product isn't on it. Can you tell me a bit more about it...main ingredients etc.

Sarahyes I saw this on either ACA or Today/Tonight earlier this week. From all reports it seems to be making a difference with the children so let's hope they are onto something for those parents who have to medicate their kids with drugs or for those parents who don't want to medicate their children and just have to put up with their children's behaviour - would be fantastic if nature could do the job for them without parents having to worry about adverse side effects.

:fingerscrossed: that there's light at the end of the tunnel for ADD or ADHD sufferers.

My sons school principal actually told me about this, which is why I started him on it. She said another student was taking it and there had been a huge improvement in this boys behaviour and schoolwork. After hearing her say that, I just HAD to have it. The downside is that for the first 3mths they should take 6 tablets a day. I put Jacob on 4 a day and I still got a big change.
I think people should try this before trying Ritalin (which is a depressant from what I've heard) as it really does work.

angel kisses - Sorry, i wrote 'fruit smart' instead of 'kids smart'. They are chewable 'burstlets' and are VERY fruity. You can eat the capsule thingy, but to me it tasted ,like cr*p (DD who is 3 eats it though), or you can chop the end off and squeeze it in their mouth.

Thanks!! Might look into them for Brooke as an alternative to Eye Q. What does your daughter say they taste like??

Also, how do you do the links like that instead of putting in the entire URL??

Kenz loves them! I tasted them, and they taste alright, very strong and fruity though. Nice tasting for a tablet/oil.....

Haha! I only just figured out how to do that with links too! You type in the words you want to replace the link with first, then highlight them, then click the little globe with paperclip thing, and copy the actual link into the box. Wala! Hope i explained that right. :o

My son has been taking natures way kids smart for a couple of weeks now.

I think I have just started to see a difference in the last couple of days.
He seems to be more agreeable and alot calmer.

I will definately be keeping him on them. He likes the taste of them too.

Cod liver oil tablets are amazing, just plain old cod liver oil tablets.
Mum used to give one to me each morning with breakfast as I was growing up and I still take them today. They're not only great for ADHD/ADD, but a variety of other things as well.. brain development & nervous system, your hair and eye health... can't recommend them enough!!!
They're also cheap, which is great as well.

Angelkisses, i don't think i even looked sorry! Just bought them anyhow! Michelle, can you remember?

I think they were around $15 for a bottle of 50 tabs.

No these ones don't smell.

That's pretty cheap!!! The Eye Q tablets are $35 for a bottle of 60.........which would last 10 days.

Will definately keep an eye out for them on Wednesday, thanks!!

Also keep an eye out for flaxseed oil.

It's got omega-9 components, which are supposedly the other piece of the puzzle.

Note, however, that the stuff is temperature sensitive - if it gets above room temperature, it breaks down and won't do any good.

There's some brands of fish-and-flax you can get, they should be in the fridge at the healthfood shop. Quite stunningly expensive, but apparently they do a lot of good.

Maybe I'll give them a go next semester.

The Eye Q ones have Evening Primrose Oil in them as well as Omega 3 oil to help with relaxation.

Relaxing sounds good, I should take them myself, LOL.

Yes, we worry about our kids so much, sometimes we forget about ourselves! If we don't take care of us, then we can't properly take care of them....

Hi everyone,
It is so good to see all these natural remedies.:smiliedance:

Too often we jump to the medicine chest or Dr to alleviate illness, instead of letting our bodies work or using a natural substitute.

Studying nursing I see all to well that because the population is quick to pop a med that people are raising their immunity to antibiotics and other meds, so when it comes time to take a tablet for illness it doesn’t work.

Keep all these natural alternatives coming through. Its great to see what works and doesn’t.
I don’t condone not taking meds if you’re sick, or need to stop a condition from occuring.
All I mean is that if its not life treating then why not try natural first. (I didn’t want people to think that I am against needing Dr treatment).
Hope to see more.:fingerscrossed:

Erm.

Everything's chemicals. If they extracted the active ingredients, and didn't mention their origins, I'm sure people would be bewailing this as 'medication'.

I agree about antibiotic resistance - it's a massive threat. But I don't think it follows that just because something's squeezed out of a plant or animal, it's any better than a refined or synthesised product.

i swear by these. i have nearly 4 year old b/g twins and the boy in particular is a handfull and they both feed off each other when in full flight attention seeking mood. our naturopath has had them on effalex (childs omegas) for over 12 months now and i now treat them as though he will die if he doesnt have them..a bit extreme i know, but i have seen the same repetative behaviour everytime i have run out of them. georgia could probably go without but i figure they will do her more good then harm, but jeremy is a different ball game. he has just recently had a cochlear implant (18th may) (a little history-born @ 24.5 weeks and jeremy has a high frequency hearing loss with auditory dysychrony). he was all over the place, cant sit still, doesnt engage or connect with what he was doing ect( and i dont only put this down to the hearing loss) it didnt take long for me to notice a difference, about 2 weeks i think. we also had a diet change-dramatically reduced gluten, lactose and refined sugars, increased fruit/veg(which was very difficult but am now winning 15 months later), just last week i missed 2 days of his tablets and the same behaviours returned. my kids take 2 everyday and love them-yes they do smell like dead fish but they have them before going to bed and before brushing their teeth so it is not an issue the next day. i buy a bottle of 300? and it costs me about $50 but i believe they are worth every cent

sorry for the long post but i am a very strong believer in them as i have seen what happens time and time again if he misses more then 2 days and it takes me 5 days to get him back into some sort of calm behaviour
