Hello all you cloth gurus:wave:

I am due in September and am so relieved to have discovered MCN. Oh my I struggled witht he leaks of Terries with my DD (who is now 4).

So getting down to business.....I lashed out last week and purchased 2 MAgic All Minkee All-In-Ones. I think I am in love....they are so gorgeous. I am thinking as far as a nappy system goes....I think I'll prefer the All-in-ones and wanted so hints as to what to buy to trial? I figure 2 of a few until I figure out what I like? Is this a good tactic or should I do something else? I'd love to have at least 10 when bub arrives and then buy more then. I do however plan to use disposables when we have BIG days out but other than that I plan to use cloth.

I looked at the Berry Plushes....and I think I am going to get the Dalamation and Leopard print ones. I am totally being drawn to the minkee styles though.

So please tell me your thought and tricks of the trade. Any suggestions of what nappies to research or possible down falls I am heading towards?

Any advice is much appreciated:D

Good on you for giving MCN a go!

Another brand worth trying is Itti Bitti. You can get a trial pack of D'lish for about $50.

The ones I used in the first weeks were itti bitti, Berry Plush, Bubblebubs (don't get newborn- they're tiny!)and Bumgenius pocket or AIO (Nurture Nappies have the AIO on special).

I had a few other 'cheaper' brands that just didn't cut it.

Ah thanks....I am thinking AIO will be the way to go for me but just get a few more to cover the longer drying times.

Do you use anything other than AIO's? Should I look at other designs?

Ah there are soooo many great nappies out there!!

I just got a couple of each to start with, and really.....the only ones I've ended up with quite a lot of are Bumgenius. They are very versatile. But the reason I only have one or two of each nappy is because there are just too many to choose from!!!

I have Itti Bitti D'lish, Bumgenius, Bubblebubs (I agree, avoid the newborn in any of the nappies) BBH Magicalls (avoid small - you won't use them long unless you have a small bub), Fluffybubs, Genesa Forge, Berry Plush, Whizz kids, Abi Gro, Issy Bear, Sugar Shots, Cushie Tushies, Wild Child.......hmmmm not sure if I've forgotten any.

Something to think about is drying time. Depending where you live, some of the AIO's take ages to dry. The Bubblebubs, Sugar Shots, BBH Magicall take a while to dry, whereas the pockets are much quicker and to a lesser extent, the snap in AI2's.

I personally only use pockets and AIO/2's. I do have a couple of BBH fitteds, but I don't like them.....don't like using covers. Very personal choice though, because many love fitteds. Having said that, I used fitteds for the first couple of months while I was feeling my way with MCN's and they are great on newborns. I also used Bumgenius from birth.

Just ask lots of questions. Start off slowly, don't buy too many of any one kind to start with - there are always more nappies to try and they're very addictive. I've got way more than I need and am about to cull:o

try a green kids starter pack, babybullfrogs and bonnibuns too!!

I use mainly magicalls, bumgenius, ittis sewn in, and greenkids from birth but are now branching out a little into some bubblebubs , the ones I mentioned above and fluffy bubs. A disposable hasnt been used in this house since DD was about 2 weeks old, including when we moved house!!

Thanks for all the suggetions:D

At least I know where to look now rather than trolling through the internet hoping to stumble over something.

I ordered 2 BerryPlush today - turquise and jaguar (I think they might be a favourite just cos they are soooooo cute). And I ordered 2 itti bitti's- moo moo and sunshine:flowerz:. Should I now hold off and just save my cash until after bubby is born?

I am looking forward to these and feel more confident than going down the terry cloth thing again. I am hoping not to use disposables:D

Ok.....so what is the difference from a AIO and AI2? And a pocket.....sorry as I said L plates;)

An AIO (all in one) has the booster sewn in.
An AI2 (all in two) has a snap in booster (sometimes more than one). Berry Plush are an AI2. Itti Bitti have a choice of sewn in or snap in.
Pockets are a just that.....a pocket with a stay-dry inner (usually suedecloth) and you stuff an insert into the pocket. Examples are Bumgenious, Green Kids, Issy Bear....:ecomcity:

Not sure about Itti's or Berry Plush on a newborn....what sizes did you order?

I got small size but realise that I'll have to son upgrade. DD was a wee little one for quite a bit....she was in 0000 for 9 weeks SO going by that I am assuming that I'll not lash out on the newborn size but see how I go when Bub's arrives. I am not too worried about the cost as a girlfriend is preggo and want to buy mine off me when I finish.

:iagree:
I started with trial packs from Baby Beehinds, Itti Bitti and Greenkids. They are well proven brands and not too expensive.

I believe Issy Bear nappies are very similar to Greenkids (just google the name to get the website). The Issy Bears apparently include the bamboo insert in the price too.

I love my Baby Bullfrogs and Bonnibuns! They are AI2s so dry a bit faster than AIOs, though the Bonnibuns take a bit longer than all my other AI2s.
