After 3 years of Engagement my DF and I have set a date for 13 Feb 2010. Ive started booking things, be that only the church and hall for the reception. It's already going to be a pretty cheapo wedding, cos I dont like wasting money, I was happy to have a registry wedding but DF doesnt want me to regret anything. He is living in Sydney cos he's in the Navy and I am living in Qld with our two young girls so I can be close to family for support while he's at sea. Living in two seperate states is becoming so expensive! Ive just recieved yet another massive phone bill, I keep getting massive childcare bills, it just feels like im not supposed to get married. With having to constantly pay large bills, with not a large wage, I have come to a halt with booking, things, I have absoloutely no idea whether we will be able to afford to get married. I dont know what to do, should I cancel the few things I have booked and lose a few hundred dollars from deposits, should I just go to the registry. I want to be his wife that's all, I dont think I need a fancy wedding. I just dont know what to do, its all too stressful, I thought it's supposed to be an exciting time, but it's proving to be quite the opposite. Sorry for going on, but I just really would love some advice.
IMO, when I get married, if I ever find anyone crazy enough wanting to marry me , it won't be a big thing and will most likely be a registry thing. I just don't see the point of spending a heap of money on having a 'wedding' when we could spend the money on other things like our kids, our home etc. I'd just be happy enough with being his wife IYKWIM...
But thats just my opinion :)
Big :hugs: for you
DH and I eloped to New Zealand (he's from there), and I don't regret it at all. My mum was a bit peeved because she didn't get to see me walk down the aisle, but she kind of got over that when DS was born (though she still mentions it occasionally so I'm not sure if she's totally moved on ). We saved soooooo much money
my DH and I had a backyard wedding. I made the invitations with my daughters drawing of the two of us 'in love' on the front. it was very cute.
printed them on the home printer and sent them out.
bought a few bottles of champers and made a love heart cake.
the biggest expense was my $200 dress...
hired a reverend from the spiritualist church..
my daughters were the 'flower girls' and held a single gerbra each. my son the ring bearer.
I told my family to show up in their PJ's for all i cared, just come !
it was a lovely day. Mum put on some nibblies and extra wine.
it was all in all less than $1000 for the day.
and it was lovely.

maybe do something like this darl?
we are having our wedding in June 2010...and with 2 kiddies and general expenses it is hard...we aren't having anything elaborate...we are hoping to get away with it for around $5000 or less if possible...we want something nice and memorable but we are very simple people...we have been together 10 years and the day is about becoming husband and wife ... so whichever way you go, do what you want to do...if we had a big enuf house we would probably opt for the backyard thing...but we don't lol so it will be costing us for this part!! :)
goodluck!

We did the same thing as Morrigan...
Just a nice simple backyard nighttime wedding...
We got married in Jan 09, so we got alot of Christmas light (the clear ones) in the post xmas sales.
We got my dress for $100 from Just jeans, just a beautiful white maxi dress and DH's shirt from Chaps (white also) which was reduced down to around $40 I think...
Our cake was from the cheesecake shop, and I did finger food on platters from after the service. Just stuff like soft cheeses and even chips for the kids.
Our celebrant is what cost us though. She was $400 but that came with service books which she printed out of the service and a personalised ceremony.
The photos were done by friends and family, and I didn't have any bridesmaids and DH had no groomsmen. My sister walked me down the isle.
We didn't want a big wedding. We just wanted to be husband and wife. We had our family & friends there and to us, our small intimate wedding was perfect for us.
Hope you work out something soon.
Wanted to add, all up it cost us maybe a bit over $1000...
