Can anyone please give me some advice on cheese sticks. I have a 7 month old little boy who has been on solids since he was 21/2 months so very early and loves his foods. He eats vegies, toast, custard, fruit, cereal and I am adding pasta tomorrow. I gave him a cheese stick yesterday and he absolutley loved it. I also gave him another one today and he thought it was the best. Did not even leave a crumb. I then told a friend who has a baby as well and she went off at me saying cheese is ok after 8 months but definately not cheese sticks until 12 months. We have cheese stick as dh takes them to work (Big kid at heart), Is this ok??
Would really appreciate any help. Also - yoghurt. What is the story there? Yes no and what type? Is adult variety ok?
Thanks for your help.

Hi :)
I'm not sure what your friend was on about saying no cheese sticks til after 12 mths  Unless it's something to do with the fact that they are all made from cream cheese/cheese spread, it says on the pack they are made from this. I gave them to my son at about 7 or 8 mths and he hated them..he did like stringers tho, they are 'real' cheese, not cream cheese, and a bit milder in flavor so maybe that was why.
As far as yoghurt goes, i gave my son baby yoghurt at 6mths without a problem, he had adult yoghurt at about 8mths at my mums and loved that too, but it didn't seem to agree with his body and he was burping small amounts up for a while after.
I'd suggest starting bub with the baby yoghurt for a few mths, then try him with adult yoghurt and see how he handles it.
My son loved yoghurt when he was younger, but has refused to eat it since he was 15mths old, he wont even eat yogo or anything like that...lucky for me he loves any kind of milk and cheese (not together) :D
Sorry, i have rambled on a bit, hopefully some of what I have said helps :)

Hi there.
My little man has been having cheese sticks and cheese for about a month now. He has this 4 times a week as a snack and absolutely loves it too!
There has been no side effects and I will continue to give it to him.
I am also giving him Yoplait baby yoghurt - I found this at coles in a four pack. This is not as rich as a standard petit miam and it is aimed at 6 months plus. He just devours it every time I give it to him. He is a dairy king!
I'm happy giving it too him. If anyone has other ideas let me know too!!
I also gave my DD cheese sticks from about 8 months, but I cut them up into little wedges to minimise any risk of choking. I read (somewhere :o ) that when you give a small child sausages, you cut them up into little pieces as they are small and round and so a bit of a choking hazard - so I did the same with the cheese stick coz its the same shape.
That's the only thing I could think of (I'm sure I checked the ingredients were OK, but only as sure as nappy brain allows  ).
Cheers

Hi there suziebear,
I give my bub (7 months) the stringers cheesesticks as they are made from pure cheese, nothing processed, and I figure her little body needs as little processed food as possible.
Hi suzie
I too am not sure on the '12 months for cheese sticks' ??? I don't know much about them. Do they have too much salt [sodium]??
The current recommendations are that you can introduce small amounts of dairy in the form of cheese, yoghurts, custard at 9 months. I think the plain yoghurts would be the best as they don't have all that added sugar - and then you can add fruit to it yourself, later, for added flavour - if you want to.
cheers

I got to see my gp yesterday and she said that they recommend cheese sticks from 9 months but provided the baby is handling rice cereal, fruit and custard fine then cheese is also fine from 6 months. Jayden is loving them and thanks for the update on the yoghurt - I have given him that to and he loves it.
