He'll probably be starting to get more interested in books, ones with lots of flaps to lift are usually a hit. Smaller board books he can hold himself are good.

One of the "powerbook" type learning things for babies and toddlers, and extra books for it. We've chosen not to go this route since I enjoy reading with Chloe anyways, but I'm sure some people & kids love them.

Wooden puzzles.

Chalkboard / drawing easel, big sidewalk chalks. My hub got Chloe a sheet of chalkboard & chalks when she was 14 months. I thought it was too early but she loved it. I don't question his ideas anymore :o

Sand box & bucket/shovel sets. Our sandbox is just a shallow storage container, like you could slide under a bed, with play sand from Bunnings. I've seen the big clamshell ones on sale though (Kmart).

Baby Einstein (or similar) dvds, books, flash cards.

Toddler size household toys - vacuum cleaners, lawnmowers etc. Although he might be a bit young for these at his birthday and maybe even at Christmas, he'll be ready for them before the summer is through.

Hi
He should just about be old enough to start scribbling with chalk and crayons. DD2 (14 months) also likes to raid her sisters felt pens but I don't believe that ink and babies mix! DD2 also loves her sisters blackboard, but still occaisionally tries to eat the chalk - I wouldn't recommend buying the skinny chalk just yet, go for the chunky sidewalk chalks (and they can be sooo cheap).

Cheers

I really like the idea of giving a keepsake present for the 1st birthday such as an ornament, money box, newspaper or something along those lines that they can keep as an adult for sentimental value. I also like the idea of planting a special tree in the garden.

Anyway hope you have a great day Ethan :)
