its gonna be a longggggg longggggggg night...hes proped up asleep next to me and ive got a bucket on guard...and im so so sick myself with a horrid headcold :(
what should i do??
well...i rang the medical advice hotline and spoke to a nurse, got a whole heap of wonderful advice and instructions..

unfrotunately my little man keeps waking every 25 or so minutes and brings up more bile... trying really hard not to cry i hate when he is sick.

Big Hugs....
Im glad you got the help needed...
Myself - Overnight Id be just trying a spoon full of water every 20 min, That does actually hydrate them... Then today Id be going to the chemist and getting some Hydralite (Its iceblocks for kids)
Just saw this thread. I'm glad you got the advice that you needed. I hope your little man's on the mend soon.

Aw hope hes better now :(
Its not a stupid question at all, as a lot of parents struggle to keep sick kids hydrated and it makes illnesses a lot worse... im sure its a big cause of hospitalisation too.
What did they advise? I'd expect its good to keep pushing fluids even if hes just gonna bring them up.

I hope your little man is feeling better, I would have suggested hydrolite or poweraid, something to keep his electrolites in balance. Nothing worse than when your little one is sick, especially when your not feeling the best yourself
thanks everyone, well they suggested letting his tummy rest for 2 hours before introducing fluids but considering it was so late they said leave it like normal (as in he doesnt drink when he's asleep) and then when he wakes up just a tablespoon of water every 10-15 minutes...if he keeps that down for 4 solid hours then i can introduce watered down lemonade, ice blocks, hydrolites etc for another 4 hours before introducing food...welllllll we didnt get that far really because it just kept up so i called them back and was instructed to just keep trying?! he didnt vomit last night HOORAY! and today is doing better it seems *fingers crossed*

Get Gastrolite or Peadolite from the chemist and give that to him to sip.
Also, if it doesn't stop after 24 hours i'd take him to the hospital.
They can give him a pill to stop him vomiting and then you can try to get the fluid in.
It's really important to not leave excessive vomiting untreated if you're unable to get fluid in and keep it in.
Floppy kids as a rule should be at the hospital i think.
Whoops - just read your update. YAY !! Hope he gets better and better !!

I almost killed a ex once by giving him too much water, gaterade, juice and tea he had gastro and would not stop vomiting had to take him to hospital the nurse and dr.s told me he was dehydrated and due to lack of minerals and salts could not stomach the fluids if we had of stayed at home for another day or so doing the same thing she said he might have died  he dropped me pretty soon after :o.
They told me with gasto the best thing is hydrolite because of the salts and minerals it has in it they help your body absorb the fluid and it's less likley to come back up.
Sandy is right, giving plain water for an extended period if there is profuse vomiting and/or diarrhoea can be dangerous due to the lack of minerals and glucose. You need some salt to replace the soduim and chloride, and some glucose as it helps the bowel to absorb the salt and gives some energy.
Likewise you shouldn't use full strength cordial, juice or sports drinks as they have too much glucose which can draw fluid inot the bowel causing more fluid loss.
Whilst Gastrolye or Paediolyte or similar are the best and ideal thing to use ( as they have all the minerals in the right concentrations), if you have nothing on hand in the middle of the night here's some recipes to use until you can get to a chemist:

OP:hugs:, a very long night for your family... I'm glad your DS is feeling better:goodvibes:
thank you very much for links. its just hit 48 hours since he vomited last :D he isnt too fussed on food only eating small ammounts which might be a good thing than over indulging after such a rough 2 days *fingers crossed its over
