Hi, Ds is almost 8 mnths and can still not sit on his own. Would love to know when others bays sat on their own for the first time. he can commando crawl and has been doing it for about 4weeks and also can get up on all 4s , but just cant sit, seems very uninteerested. is this quite late

Ds was much like your bub, very uninterested in sitting and could commando crawl etc. Wasn't until 10months he suddenly figured it out and sat without any trouble at all.

DS has been sitting on his own since about 4 months, but doesn't crawl yet or pull himself up. Every baby does things on their own time, if youre worried talk to your doctor but if he seems to be progressing over all I wouldn't worry too much.
7 months for both of mine. Don't worry too much about it- some babies are desperate to be able to sit up and have a different point of view of the world, and some are just really uninterested and prefer to roll around on the floor.
My niece didn't sit up until about 10 months. :)

Thanks guys, i guess i am just comparing him to DS1 who sat by himself at about 7mnths. and was pulling to stand at 7.half mthhs. Also DS1 was a huge eater. where as DS2 not interested in solids. Oh well hope he will sit soon.
My baby only sat unsupported at 7 months, and at 8 months he's not doing any sort of crawling, but he's moving (in that he'll go from sitting to on all fours then back to sitting, then turn himself around).
I think they say by this age they should just be moving in some way.
Remember, by the age of 2, they'll all be the same.:)

My DD was crawling at 5 months but didn't sit up until 8 months. She just did not seem interested at all. I was a bit worried as it seemed every other baby was sitting but she did it in her own time :D

She actually sat after she crawled, which was weird. So, crawling at five and a half months, sitting at six months. I wouldn't worry - they do it when they're ready, and you'll be thinking "when's it going to happen??" and then all of a sudden they'll just ... sit! It's SO cool when they do :D
My niece went from sitting to crawling to standing to walking in a matter of two months - didn't really crawl or sit till she was 11 months old!

Thanks again, so it seems i am not the only one with an almost 8mnth old who doesnt want to sit.. its ahrd not to worry when many books say that they should be sitting on their own by 7mnths..

The books can be annoying like that :D
The best book I have for that kind of thing is `What To Expect The First Year'. At the beginning of each chapter it has different categories of milestones for your baby - `should be doing', `may be doing', `may even be able to' but the categories are SO loose, that it's no pressure, so to speak.

My bub was about 8.5 months... She's only been sitting properly for about 2 weeks. Previously I would have to sit with her because she'd fall over after about 5 seconds. She just wasn't interested.. :)

Thanks for posting this! I was starting to get worried myself.
My twins are 8 months and cannot sit confidently.
DD can comando crawl and DS can wiggle his way around the floor. They will sit when they want to. Theres no point in making them when they dont want to.
sitting 5 months but crawled latish at 11 months (i think) walked at 15 months
