DS1 has a blistery rash and now DS2 is starting to get one, I suspect it's because of the nappies not geting much sun lately with al the rain. Also, DS1 tends to do really acidic/runny poos and I just can't make the rash go away. I've been using camomile tea and then corn flour and that has been working ok at keeping it under control, but it only takes another yucky poo and it's back to blistering again.
I've tried paw paw cream, sudocream, bepanthen, curash cream and powder.

so, who has actually found something that really works?

I just used baby powder at every nappy change and if a rash was persistent then we'd use bepanthen at every change too.

Maybe you need an anti-fungal cream like Daktozin?

I had a lot of problems with DD and it ended up being the wipes i was useing. I use powder on ds every nappy change the cornfour one. And if he looks super red some sudocream with a polar fleece nappyliner so it doesn't go all over the nappy

i have tried so many things for dd's nappy rash...

bepanthan, curash powder and cream, penaten, covitol, paw paw cream, sudocream, daktoxin and millions more... nothing seems to work!!!

i have stopped using wipes on her bottom aswel and it has made no differennce!!!

i ended up asking the doctor and they just said to try all the different screams etc we had already tried that werent working!!!

eventually i went to the chemist and they said to try an ointment called 'dermeze' you can get it most chemist and its something they uses on burns and for skin irritations etc... it seems to be working...

Daktozin if it is severe and all else fails.

until they heal i would be buying disposable nappies and sterilising the nappies you own. could be bacterial infection.

use disposable nappies and use Amolin cream on every single nappy change.

Daktozin if it is severe and all else fails.

It is zinc and antifungal.

Put some canasten in with yr wash or even a cap of dettol.

( Morrigan my mum swears by amolin too for everything from chapped lips to sunburn, aswell as sore bums!!! I just use Amolin washing liquid so i feel better, otherwise i hear her voice banging in my head AMOLIN AMOLIN AMOLIN  )

Nappy free time works the best and it doesn't cost you anything......

I am glad that you worked out the problem though.

I swear by bicarb in bathwater to help it heal

LOL *shudders* that will give me nightmares! But at least i think of my mum everyday when i do a load of washing. I might mention that to her when i talk to her next, she will be ever so proud, although she will wonder why i didnt listen to her about other numerous things that i possibly should have paid more attention too

Absolutely!! Works a treat. When DD has it really bad we don't use wipes but cotton wool and bi carb with water. Does the trick every time.

we tried bicarb in the bath, didn't really make a difference. How much are you meant to put in?

can you use bi carb powder straight onto their bum?

I would think it may be a little abrasive to do that... I say that because one of the other things I use it for is cradle cap...

I probably put in a cup or more. It should leave the water feeling soft-ish. However if you have a infection involved and the nappies aren't getting the UV rays to kill the germs you could well be reinfecting your bubs. Do you use a liner?

yep, I use flushable liners which are great for cleaning poo, but I worry it's not too great against his skin.

There was one piece of advice from a friend when I had my first born that I always used. Make sure that everything is completely DRY before the nappy goes back on. I try not to use wipes. I have the luxury of a nice built in bench cupboard in laundry to change my DD, with a built in trough and I generally just use damp tissues to clean poos. But if I have to use wipes I always make sure I pat everything dry (NO powder) with a tissue before the nappy goes on. If my kids were getting signs of redness (usually if we had been out on a long trip etc where nappy wasn't changed as regularly as usual) I used DISENTIN cream.

Besides Breastmilk my daughter usually has water as a drink but once when I gave her quite a bit of fruit and some diluted juice for the day ( In a hope to get her bowels moving after she grabbed my sons bowl of nutrigrain off the table and scoffed as much as she could before I caught her!!! Yeah a little too much iron!!!) She developed some harsh redness-but after one night lathered in Disentin she was all back to normal the next day.

if the poos are runny try giving him bananas, and vegimite toast it binds them up and cut down juice and fruit and look what other foods maybe causing an upset tummy milk dose this too, runny poos do cause nappy rush and keep it going and the poo can then cause infection if the rash is blistered and open
Paw paw and bepanthen are the best I'd used at every change and wouldn't used baby power

And My mum!

I can vouch for the Amolin cream for nappy rash. I've not used anything else but a bit of cornflour powder.

It DOES work.

(We also use it on chapping, cracked lips, sunburn, overnight on a tissue-sore nose, split cuticles, on scars to soften them, on stretch marks, even as a rich eye cream!)

Because most of the creams mentioned can't be used with cloth, I know loads of people who swear by moo goo, which is perfectly safe to use with cloth. I personally haven't used it, but have heard so many great things about it, I'm going to get some in case DS gets a rash.
