I just found out I have a small infection in my chest, this is what is causing the cough from H***! :banghead: Now I am on antibiotics! I didn't want to have to take anything at all through this pregnancy and I almost made it. Now at 29 weeks I have to take these things... :crying:

My OB says that they are fine to take while pg but I am still terribly upset and feel like a failure and a bad mother, as I couldn't protect myself let alone my baby from anitbiotics. :crying:

I so just want to cry.. I am taking EES 400 (Erythromycin) anyone else taken these and had a healthy baby?

sorry just feel so gutted at the moment.

I really wouldn't beat yourself up over it Eliza - I had to take 4 doses of antibiotics, then became allergic to one so threw up and had the runs for two days. I got two colds in two weeks with a throat infection, chest infection, sinus, swollen glands you name it, it hit me. I was on 850mg of penicilliln at one stage.

It's not about being a bad mother at all, your body is working so hard to give your baby what it needs that of course you will get run down - remember the baby takes what it needs before you do, so you suffer a hell of a lot more than it ever will.

I never wanted to take anything either but reality is there are drugs that are safe and when you need to take them for the benefit of yourself and the baby then that's what you have to do. I have to take Panadeine regularly due to irritable uterus, I don't like it but I'm not going to live in horrid pain for the next 8 weeks either.

I havent had to take those pills but I also got to near 30 weeks and got sick and had to take tablets, I cant remember what they were but I didnt want to have to (I dont even normally take panadol when I'm not preggie let alone but somthing into my body with bub in there) ANYWAY my girl turned out fine and had absalutly no problems at all.

I hope you start to feel better, its not your fault you got sick and your bubba will be fine (your not a bad mummy at all:D)

Good luck hun, try not to stress about it to much (if thats possible):)

ED, the rubbish I had to take, I shouldn't have a healthy baby. Don't stress too much, EES is perfectly safe to take during pregnancy. EES is also the usual drug of choice if you get mastitis.

If you didn't take it, you would be risking pneumonia or something worse.

Eliza hon, your can't beat yourself up over being sick, that has nothing to do with you being a good mother or not! The doctor would only give you something that is safe to have while pregnant.
I have been sick through both of my pregnancies and was sick just before I fell pregnant this time. Though it is far better to take the medication and clear up a small chest infection than to have is get worse and turn into something line pneumonia.
There are somethings we just can't protect ourselves or our children from and to beat ourselves into the ground for it really doesn't achieve anything.
Go make yourself a nice hot chocolate and put your feet up. Take some time out and relax!

ED you can't help being sick, I think it is better to take the tablets now rather than let the infection get chronic or turn into pnuemonia and be admitted to hospital for IV antiboiotics. Your ob would never give you someting that would harm your baby.

I know exactly how you feel when I was so sick in my pregnancy I felt so guilty taking maxalon and I also had to take antibiotics for a UTI. I was racked with guilt. My ds is 7 and absolutely fine. I was so worried the antibiotics would give him terrible adult teeth but some are through now and they are fine, no problems at all.

You are actually a really good mum because you care so much about your unborn baby. A bad mother would take anything and not care at all. Don't feel guilty just get better soon:)

I had to go on 2 courses of antibiotics in the 4th month of my first pregnancy, and went through the same thoughts. But you have to believe them when they say they are safe, loads of research proves it. In an ideal world, we wouldn't be exposed to pollution, pesticides, etc when pregnant, so taking medication is harmless if recommended by a good doc. The main thing to remember is

"a good mum (to be) is a HEALTHY mum" You need your energy to help bubba grow, and that cant happen if you dont get better quick, so you are doing the right thing.

Oh hun try not to beat yourself up :hugs:
Sometimes these things happen !
I shouldnt have had a healthy bubba either considering i couldnt keep food or water down for a good 7 or 8mths of the pg !!!!!
Bubbas are amazing & this isnt a bad drug so take it & get yourself well.
Its much better to do this as you dont want to get worse & your going to need all your energy soon so need to be as healthy as possible.
Take care hope you feel better soon :hugs:
