I'm having a rant about doctors in general not listening to you, thinking that they know our bodies better than we do after only seeing us for 30 minutes.

I saw a fertility guy today to start getting blood tests to see why O is being sluggish.

I've been quite aware of my body for about the last 6 months and can pin point ovulation exactly from a few different methods. I also know for certain that my luteal phase is 17 - 20 days for the last 5 cycles, which is longer than it is supposed to be.

When i told him this, he said. "no thats not right, it's always 14 days". and was adamant I had it wrong.
I would have thought a fertility specialist would have been at least open to the fact not ever female cycle is the same!.

Qu.1. Anyone else get sick of doctors not listening to what you say?

Qu2. Anyone else know what length their luteal phase is? (From day of ovulation till AF appears. shoud normally be 14 days).

Hi. I do know what you mean, as I've been tracking everything, so I know exactly what's going on. My cycle is short (23-27 days), but it varies from month to month, but I know when O day is, so I know when AF is coming. Its always 14 days for me, but there's got to be some variation for some women surely? I mean you just have to look at the charts on FF, to see that some women have longer phases?

Hi Toad! I would say you should go and see another doctor, someone who is aware of natural sample variation!!! Even google knows about other luteal phase lengths! since coming off the pill my LP lengths have been 9(?), 11, 14 and 19. (I am sure that the first two were effected by the pill)

I have to wait till my AF is due before i get the ultrasound and blood tests done.
Might look into seeing someone else if he still seams a little hard of listening when those results come back.

I even felt very proud that I had my charts with me and had been tracking my signs / temps etc.

He told me to throw away my thermometer and not bother with it.
I think he was getting at the issue of by the time your temo has risen it's too late to conceive.

Still he didn't listen to me when I said I wasn't relying on my temperatures for conception, more just to confirm for myself that I had actually ovulated when I thought I had.

I heard a few doctors wont see you unless you HAVE been charting!

He's a twit by the sounds of it!

I'd switch docs, if enough ladies do then maybe he will start rethinking his attitude! (Well in my mind stuff like that happens...)

Good luck in finding the doc who is right for you:thumbsup:

I also believe that my LP is longer. My cycles vary from 5 to 8 weeks in length. When I fell pg at Chrismas time my cycle had started on 7 Nov and when I had an u/s on 17 Jan they said I was eight weeks. So I must have O'd two weeks after the start of my cycle, this meaning my LP is definitely longer than 14 days. I think this is def one of my problems with ttc.

I like the fact my chinese herbalist listens and understands, and that she is trying to balance my hormones so regular my cycle. I'm very much into the holistic approach though.
