Hi,
My daughter is 14 months old and she is happy as anything crawling around. She has taken a little waddle from the coffee table to my hand on about 3 occasions but thats about it. Her crawling doesnt bother me so much as im not running round after her making sure she isnt pulling everything over, but it makes me wonder whether it will be soon or not when she will actually walk. My mum told me that because of my motor skills complex I had when I was young I didnt start walking well till i was almost 2. What is the average age your kids have started to walk? and at what age should I start getting concerned?
Thanks
Amy
My girl was one, my boy was 14mths...
I had a friend who's baby didn't start walking til 18mths
I wouldn't worry until then
He probably has more important things to learn and do! eg.explore etc
Well all my kids were different
DD began to walk very close to her 1st birthday....
DS1 Was a lazy bugger.. i think he was around 14 months
DS2 started to walk just before 11 months :)
my daughter began walking before 12 months.
The average age is between 9 and 18 months (anywhere in between that is still in the 'normal range' and you don't need to worry)
DD1 was 16 months (which is actually quite early for her, she has Down Syndrome and kids with ds usually don't start walking before they are 2)
DD2 is only 3 months so not for a while yet.

my twins are 16 months and I'm still waiting. They're hard enough to keep up with when they're crawling that I'm not too worried about the walking. If they're not walking by 18 months I'll check with the doctor.
My DS started at just past 10 months, although at my mothers group of 8 boys it ranged from then until 17 months - so anything is normal.

Well Boof started cruising around 13mths or so & took a few steps on his own then stopped all together & was happy crawling around. Then one day a few weeks ago he just decided to spend the whole day walking around the house & for the next week thats all that happened he didnt touch his toys or anything he just practised his walking. He is now pretty confident still a little wobbly at times but has even started to test out running so he may have started late but is coming on leaps & bounds.
Im also wondering where my little baby has gone :(
I wasnt too worried as i thought he was going to be like my sister who didnt start until 2yrs of age when she didnt just walk she ran ! Some kids are like that they dont want to do anything until they do it properly & confidently. Some kids are even this way when it comes to talking.
Try not to stress its hard when your not sure if something may be wrong but every bub is different & i think its a good thing too :)

My son was 12 1/2 months and my daughter was 14 1/2 months, but one of the little girls at my playgroup was closer to 18 months.

My daughter started cruising around the furniture at 12mths and didn't really start to walk until she was about 14/15mths. She is nearly 20mths and I can't stop her she just walks and runs everywhere, toddlers are so quick on there feet when they want to be.

DD is ALMOST 11 months old and has begun to take a few steps (maximum of four at the moment) on her own. She's not walking yet...but I have no doubt she'll be there VERY soon.

Jacob ran at 10mths and didn't walk until he was 4.5yrs old........no kidding, he ran first, walked later.
Brooke walked at 15mths.
Matthew at 13mths.
My dd is 15 months and isn't walking yet. I am not concerned though, as I know that she will walk when she is ready..... People keep asking me about her walking, or lack of it and it drives me insane. Each bub is different and starts walking in their own sweet time.
my son was delayed and walked at about 13 months. generally if children are delayed due to a medical reason you can tell by things other than how quickly they accomplish milestones. for example my son was very floppy which you could tell by looking at him (he has low muscle tone) or children who appear extremely stiff if can be a sign of autism or spastic. hope i made sense

Too true!! Brooke was born with glue ear which didn't get resolved until she was 2. She couldn't crawl till 10mths, couldn't sit till 11mths and didn't walk till she was 15mths. She said her first word at 20mths.
my daughter started crawling at 5mths, cruising the furniture at 6mths, fully walking at 9mths, running at 1yr and hasnt stopped since.

its funny how thier legs will be stuck on 4th/5th gear for the first while and its only until they get much older that they can creep on tippy toes. maybe it might be because balancing is easier when the body is in a full and faster motion.. like going accross a balance beam is easier down quicker. what do you reckon?

Hiya.
DD is 17 months and still no walking. She is cruising around thigns and holding on but only 2 steps by herself before she crashes. The Dr has checked out and there is nothing physical preventing her from walking she is just more interested uin developing other skills rather than walking!

My 2 both started walking at 15 months. Like others have said up to 18 months is considered normal after this i would probably go and see the GP.
