View Full Version : ok... help, is he getting enough???
ok. my baoy is now just over 3 months, and for the last 2 weeks of an afternoon he eats every hr, and seems to be hungry in between... stuffing his fists in his mouth. ect.
today out of curiosity i expressed my milk when he was due for his first lot of his hrly afternoon/night feeds and only got 100mls if that. maybe 90 was closer. is this normal? or am i running out of milk, i dont want to use formular to suplement. how can i boost my suply to make sure he gets enough? or am i worring about nothing? he is still having lots of wet nappies, but he seems constantly hungry till 9pm when he goes to bed.
will expressing more often fix this or should i just give up like my partner is telling me? please help i dont want to stop until he is a year. and im really worried:crying:
Wow 100mls is pretty good IMO  I wouldn't judge your supply by the amount you can express otherwise I would have given up long ago.
If he wants to feed a lot in the evening then I would suggest to just let him feed and get your partner to help with whatever he can. He might be going through a growth spurt and this stage might only last a few more days. Sounds to me like your supply is coping pretty well....it can be frustrating sometimes when all you are doing is feeding especially when you want to get dinner made and cleaned up.
After he has been feeding hourly in the evening...does he then sleep well? My DD used to cluster feed in the evening and then sleep for a good 7 hour stretch. My DS on the other hand wasn't a cluster feeder but would wake every 3 hours at night for a feed. :dizzy:
What you are describing sounds fairly normal to me.:hugs:

:hugs:
i agree tho, sounds very normal to me too.
my ds is about the same age as yours, and feeds exactly the same in the arvy/evenning when going thru a growth spurt. seems like he is constantly attached to my boob sometimes!
the fist sucking is normal too for the age. babies find their fists and learn by putting everything into their mouths, including their hands and feet :)
but to answer your question i think hed be getting enough
the best way to build supply is to let him feed as much as he wants anyways (there are other methods to boost supply as well, but this is the best ive found)
hope this helps anyways, sorry for the babble!

WOWSERS 100 ml is fantastic, but dont ever assume expressing as a measurement of supply because i can get maybe 10ml from one breast if i am lucky.
Does bub have enough wet nappies each day?
Is bub putting on weight?
If so, you have no dramas. Sounds like typical 'arsnic hour/witching hour' as it is known. Babies do this, and it is very normal. It could be a growth spurt but since it has been going on for 2 weeks i would say arsenicarsenic hour myself. It will get better as he gets bigger, Just prepare each day knowing that you will indeed need time out to attend to bub for however long he feeds rather constantly. Get comfy, put your feet up, drink lots of water to help your milk along, and enjoy the time that you have to just sit there!!!!
Dont give up and by all means there is no need to supplement with formula. If your bub has wet nappies, is generally happy and looks well, well your supply is fine.
If in doubt call the Breastfeeding Association or speak to a lactation consultant who will ease your mind.
