Dear Ladies,
I am just after some advise of more experienced moms:o
My bub just started rice cereal 10 days ago and I also changed her formula to stage 2 from stage 1 and she has got rosy cheeks and pink bottom yesterday but nothing too bad.
Tonight it gone real bad:no:...
Her bottom looks scary - all purple and some water is coming from the sores...I am changing her as often as every hour and using nappy rush cream but it just looks so bad and her face is all red as well.
Is it possible that she has some sort of allergy or not?
What should I do?
Thank you!

Sounds like teething... how old is bub? Was the cereal plain or did it contain fruit?

Sounds like teeth to me. Could be an allergy I guess but it sounds more like teeth. Does bubs have a slight temp?

Coat the sores on the bottom very thickly in nappy rash cream and then sprinkle over the cream with cornstarch. Change the nappies frequently.

If bubs bottom isn't showing signs of improvement in 24 hours, get an antifungal cream from your chemist and put that on the weeping sores and then cover with nappy rash cream.

The cereal is plain, Heinz brand.
She was teething as she already has 2 bottom teeth that I could see:) and she had a pink bottom and red gface and was unsettled about 2 weeks ago when the teeth were cutting but it was not that bad as now...
Maybe there are more teeth coming?:) She will be 6 moths tomorrow.

could be a reaction to the no.2 milk? or teething? any chance of nappy free time in a heated room? We use vegesorb on any bum rash with every nappy change and it works treat.

my bubs is cutting his first teeth and he has similar symptoms you describe...Red rosy cheeks almost like a rash and a really sore bum with little sores that are weeping....He has a slight temp a couple of weeks ago prior to the red cheeks and bum....I've just been lathering on the calmoseptine!

Gotta love teeth - my children's bums get blisters with teeth as well - never nice.

I think you will find if they have a food allergy it won't take 10 days for symtoms to appear.

 yep. Its in a white tube. It works a treat! I've only ever had to use it a max of 2-3 days before the rash has cleared up :)

 tetthing does this to babies bottoms??
i dont understand how when its their mouths

Teething does something to their saliva, making it more acidic so it burns their cheeks when they dribble and their bottoms on the way out. Teething can also make their poo more runny, also causing nappy rash.

Sure can! So can having a cold.

I was also going to add what kind of wipes are you using, have you changed them recently?

wipes are still the same (from the day she was born):)
but what I changed recently is I started to use wipe warmer 2 days ago:confused: as I thought it was not pleasant for her to have her bottom cleaned with a cold wipe...

Having had a sort of nappy rash myself, I can definitely tell you that warm wipes are not nice! Cool ones straight from the pack are very soothing on sore bums!

Yes often bubs has this type of 'reaction' when teething but what you are stating sounds a little bit more than regular teething ...

Guess I am going to be the only stand alone on this & maybe thats because I am now jaded with all the issues G has gone through but oh wells.

Rice cereal whilst classified as the best thing to start babies on in regards to solids as its meant to be the least allergenic is now actually coming to light as being a very high factor in causing allergies &/ or intolerances.

Infact many babies who have gone on to be diagnosed with dairy & soy protein allergies & / or intolerances at 6mths of age have infact had issues with rice !

I would suggest taking the cereal out of your lo's diet because even if it is just teething laying off the solids for a little bit will help her gut that little more.

G had an instant 'reaction' to rice cereal where his cheeks went bright red & were eczema like looking very angry, he would become miserable & cranky & this was when the nappies would start !

Taking the rice cereal away always solved our problems & made it fairly obvious that it wasnt teething.

The best thing to start bubs on when introducing solids is the likes of sweet potato, choko, pears & potato as they are in the lower range of low allergenic foods !

Good luck hope bubs feels better soon !

We always have to use Orabase on G's bum as he gets ulcers which we then lather the likes of another nappy rash cream over the top of so that it protects the Orabase so it does its work !

:iagree:
Noah had a BAD reaction to rice cereal, I will never make one of my babies have it again, besides the fact it is revolting :barf:
He has also had a reaction to oats (quite severe) so I too would recommend just getting bubs on the fruit and veg to start.

Thank you Ladies,
I did not give her any rice cereal yesterday and today just to be on a safe side.
Got the cream this morning and was changing her at night time (normally she sleeps through so I do not wake her up for that).
Her bottom looks so much better today! Hope it won't get bad again:)

WOW, I just noticed a new tooth:laughing:
Her third tooth is cutting:)
Can I give her cereal back now?:)
She was keen but I was worried that she had an allergy...so all good now? or should I still wait?

Yeah ditch the cereal :) your bubby is on formula so is getting everything he needs. Go for sweet potato and pear :chef:.
